Model: EAP225
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 2.20.1

I've plugged two new EAP 225 V3's into my existing POE switch, which is connected to my Hitron CGN3ACSMR router gateway/accesspoint combo unit. I can access the internet through the new wireless network it has created. This is the goal; to turn off the WiFi SSID associated with the Hitron box and replace it with a network of TP-Link EAPs. However, after installing the Omada controller software on a local host, it says the system is not connected to a gateway and cannot access the internet. It tells me (on several menu options)

"Gateway Required. Connect and adopt a gateway to enable this feature."

The Hitron box IS the gateway, so I don't understand how I can access the internet via the wireless network, but have Omada not see the gateway. Am I missing something?

The gateway is required if (and only if) you want to enable management of a gateway through Omada Controller. Such a gateway has even not yet been released by TP-Link, it's a new product (the Omada Security Gateway OSG) coming soon.

What's more, you don't need an OSG if you already have a gateway and would like to use this instead.

@R1D2 He wants to implement the gateway he currently has in order to use it in the omada software, however it does not detect it

Because it is not possible to »implement« a third party gateway in Omada SDN Controller.

As I wrote, you need an Omada Security Gateway running SDN firmware such as TL-R605.

This will be detected just fine and it can be managed through Omada SDN Controller.

@R1D2 Oh sorry about that, I didn't quite understand, do you know of any list of router devices compatible with the software so I can take a look at them?

@Klariff,

at the moment, only TL-R605 and TL-ER7206 will be supported: https://www.tp-link.com/en/business-networking/omada-sdn-router/

For an overview and more resources see this page: https://www.tp-link.com/en/omada-sdn/
