Model: TL-R480T+
Hardware Version: V9
Firmware Version: 9.0.2 Build 20180926 Rel.34538

Hello :

I bought a TPlink TL-R480T+ last month. I have load balancing enabled and I am using it to balance a DSL internet connection on Wan1 and a Cell tower internet connection on Wan2. The load balancing is working very well. I also have link backup configured so that Wan 2 will take over if Wan1 goes down. Link backup is also working well. I would like to enable Load balancing and link backup at the same time so that the loads are balanced and so that Wan2 will take over if Wan1 fails. I find that the TL-R480T+  with Load balancing enabled and link backup enabled fails to recover if Wan1 goes down. Are Load Balancing and Link Backup mutually exclusive on the   TL-R480T+ or am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Steve

Hardware version: TL-R480T+ v9.0

Firmware version: 9.0.2 Build 20180926 Rel.34538

I'm pretty sure you only need Load balancing turned on.  If either WAN goes down, the router should continue to function albeit at the reduced speed of only one connection. I have 2 LTE connections on a TL-ER5120 with only load balancing turned on. I have to reboot the LTE modems at least once a week (one of them frequently loses LTE and switches to 4G and won't go back to LTE until a reboot) and as long as I do it one at a time, the internet connection stays up.

Thanks Fordstick. I believe you are correct .
