TL-ER5120 Not Detecting WAN Down

The router is set up to use 3 WAN connections, with each going through a switch or router prior to reaching the TL-ER5120. Since the switch or router may remain online when the connection to the ISP has been lost, we have the WAN ports set Active in "Online Detection" to detect (Ping & DNS Lookup) manually-specified IP addresses on the Internet. However, when the ISP connection is lost, the TL-ER5120 does not detect the loss of connectivity and continues trying to route traffic through the failed WAN because it sees the local switch. Assuming we have this set up correctly, this is a significant defect.
There needs to be a way to set how often the Ping & DNS Lookup are attempted, and after how many errors it disables the WAN.
There also needs to be a way for the router to send an email to an admin to alert them of alarms.

I have 2 WAN and use linkbackup failover to switch from WAN1 to WAN2. Online detection is set to manual via ping to 8.8.8.8 and DNS lookup to 8.8.8.8. Online detection shows WAN1 as offline, and ping function in "Diagonistics under System Tools" to 8.8.8.8 fails, ER5120 still connects to WAN1. The only way for me to switch over to WAN2 is to go and disconnect WAN1 from "WAN under Network". This bug is annoying. Any fix?

If that's a bug, maybe you can feedback to TP-Link Support.

@shronek Im having this same problem with the TL-ER5120. One Cable Modem connection and a DSL connection. The DSL connection looses connection and I have to manually reset it. I tried manually testing DNS and Ping and no luck still. Current firmware update as well. Any other suggestions?

@Mehankhan agreed. Currently when a link goes down, only a reboot or unplug-replug has it come back up. Hopefully someone at TP link actually reads these and include that in the next firmware update.

@shronek i think I solved this. TBD but holding solid for a few hours. I had both load balancing between 4 WAN connections as well as FAILOVER running as well, with 1 or 2 failing over to 3 or 4. 3 and 4 kept failing.
Once I disabled failover and just allowed load balancing to run, I've yet to lose a connection. Fingers crossed.
