Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: ER605v1_un_1.1.0_20210531-rel59047(beta)

Hello,
I am using Omada SDN Controller version 4.4.3 (4.1.5 has same issue) with router ER605. I have configured 2 PPTP Client to Site connection, 1 L2TP/IPsec Client to Site connection and 1 L2TP/IPsec Server. With these connections established, my internet connection is very ustable. It freezes and falls down. I have to reboot router several times a day, sometimes it recovers itself, but internet connection is lost anyway. For example I cannot download a file (even with slow speed and during night) if download takes more than 1 hour. It always ends with error. Tried many times. If I disable VPN connections and server, everything works flawlessly. I am using this beta FW because with official older FW ER605v1_un_1.0.1_20210113-rel35074 I cannot connect to L2TP Client to Site VPN.

@Libik

If you go to "Insight--VPN Status--VPN tunnel", can you see the statistic information when the VPN is established?

Other advanced features such as Access Control and Bandwidth Control will also affect the speed you have, you can check to make sure they are all turned off.

The function "Hardware Offload" will also influence the performance of the router.

Thank you for suggestions. HW Offload is enabled. I do not think that the problem is in overloading of router. I see max 30% of CPU and 40 % of memory max in graphs. I have also tried to download during night when nothing else is using internet connection. Problem is that the internet connection is lost at all - not only VPN connections. One repeatable scenario I have found: downloading file(s) which tooks more than an hour (slow speed download 500kB/s - internet connection is 10MB/s) without possibility to pause these downloads and it always fails. After disabling VPN connections (Client-to-Site), the file(s) is(are) downloaded without any problem. I am using VDSL internet connection with modem in bridge mode, so Router is making PPPoE connection. I have also tried to change modem from different manufacturer (TP-Link and ASUS) and the issue persists.

@Libik

@Fae

I have hevy problem to with L2TP and PPTP client and server, is highly unstable. if I restart router or controller I have to recreate PPTP or L2TP server som thimes to get it to work.

Users dont work and somthime i have to recreate them to, I hope Omada Controller 4.4.4 fix this issue, I think this is a controller probem,

I have som router in stand alone and I dont have this problem in stand alone.

and is the same on ER605 and ER7206

I have asked before but sombody in TP-LINK is this a know issue?

@shberge

I have opened issue in TP-Link support, but with no reply yet. I will contact support again soon.

I am thinking about ER-7206 (because of L2TP speed) but if it had same issue :-(.

It is really annoying bug. I have to disable VPN clients for now.

@Libik

Nice if you update us on the forum, I have not opened any case yet, I hope it will be fixed in controller version 4.4.4, I have OC200 so I have not received the latest version here yet.

VPN speed varies greatly from slow to slower, it is far from the specifications given.

this applies to IPsec and L2TP/ PPTP, I have some old Cisco ASA5505 with 100Mbps interface and these are much faster than ER7206 with the same encryption

@shberge

I have no problem with speed of IPSec (L2TP) VPN with ER605 (about 3MB/s - it is corresponding to specs). ER7206 should have much faster IPSec (41.5 Mbps for ER605 vs 291.6 Mbps for ER7206). I have only 100MBit internet connection so 300Mbps is enough for me.

Omada Controller 4.4.4 does not solve the issue. It is also not mentioned in release notes :-(

@Libik

I updated ER7206 and ER605 routers to 1.1.1 and Omada controller to 4.4.4 and everything is much much much better. not perfect but my heavy PPTP an L2TP problem is gone for now.

after reboot of gateway or controller everything connect and work so much better.

I have now all my routers in SDN.

Only problems I have now is that PPTP don't connect after a reboot of router and i have to go in to PPTP connection and press apply to reconnect. I have done this only once.

So after update everything work for now.

crossing fingers and hope this not temporary smiley
