How can someone stop, prevent or reduce the susceptibility to DDOS attcaks with simple setting on the gateway router?

What Gateway router are you running?
If it is an Omada Router, it likely already has methods for DDOS mitigation under settings..
Enabling Flood Defense against ICMP or UDP packets might be a good start, other option is if you have a dynamic IP.. take your router offline over night to allow the IP to change
