Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: ER605(UN)_V1_1.1.1_20210723

I haven't been able to get a simple routing setup to work properly on this router. Hoping someone cant give me a hand:

192.168.1.0/24 (internal network)  -> 192.168.12.1 (Internet gateway) -> Internet

ER605:

LAN1: 192.168.1.5

WAN1: 192.168.12.1

I want to use 192.168.1.5 as the default gateway on the internal network. In the various combinations of static routes to 0.0.0.0/0 (LAN1) -> 192.168.12.1 have failed.

Can someone steer in the right direction? I think there's something obvious I'm missing and haven't been able to find.

TIA

@pnwfc

If you just have a single WAN, you don't need to configure anything. All traffic will go to the default gateway (that is the LAN IP of the router), and to the WAN port. This is what a router with NAT should do by default. Maybe I didn't catch your real meaning. But static routing is used to direct traffic within LAN. It won't involve WAN traffic, as I think.

Do you have multi-WAN connections? If you want to direct a certain LAN network to a certain WAN connection, you should configure policy routing, not static routing.

@pnwfc

Single WAN connection.

Profile based routing turned out to be the answer. Static routing would not accept a 0.0.0.0/0 route, but Profile does implcitly when using the default IP_LAN & IP_ANY groups.

Thank you.
