Model: TP-Link Routers
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.1.1

Hi, I have recently purchased a TP-Link VPN Router Model ER605. I have setup VPN Connection using L2TP.

I am able to successfully connect to the VPN Server using L2TP. However, I cannot ping the Server on the Head Office. I am unable to ping any IP on the head office network.  However if I go to the IP Settings of the VPN Connection and tick the option "Use Default Gateway on Remote Computer" then everything works fine. I am able to ping.

However, I would like the remote office to use their own internet rather then the remote office using internet over VPN Connection.

Appreciate if some you advise me if there are any further configuration that needs to be done to fix the above issue. I have the same setup on a Cisco RV345 VPN Router and it works fine. As for TP-Link, I am facing issues.

See below my setup

@atinfj

Hey,

I just found an FAQ related to this issue. As now the VPN pool cannot be in the same subnet as the LAN IP of VPN Server, we need to set up specific IP range for LAN IP and VPN IP Pool, so that we can access the resources of remote site via VPN but access internet via local gateway. For more details about the settings, see this FAQ:

As the picture shows, there is an NAT device in front of ER605. Did you configure port forwarding for ER605 on the NAT device?

@Somnus Yes, Port forwarding is done. All these ports are forwarded, 500, 4500, 1701

Did you turn off the firewall and antivirus on the remote host? Sometimes firewall will block VPN packets.

@Somnus Yes, I have tired this also. My VPN Connection is successful however, I cannot even ping the VPN Router which is 10.1.1.1/24. I have the same setup on Cisco, I have no issues.

@Somnus Yes, the issue has been solved. The atricle is correct. If you using Class A on your network, then the Pool IP needs to be Class A and not Class C. Thank you. The issue has been solved now.
