Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 2.0.6

Hi:

I recently bought this device..

It was soild to me as a TL-SG2008 v3.. but when then I discovered thjat this device has a different firmware that apparently is no longer updated like the TL-SG2008 v3, by updating it to version 2.0.6 I was able to get the omada controller to recognize it.. I just want to know if TL-Sg2008 v3 firmware (that even this forum says the are the same hardware very confusing) can be used to update this device to keep with current developments.

@crrodriguez Hi

As far as I know, you can't use the 2008 firmware to upgrade your switch, because your switch is a T1500G-8T, the model number in brackets should just be for your reference. You can also see from their official website that their firmware is different, so you can't use the 2008 firmware to upgrade your switch. (I was confused once, then the tplink tech told me I could look at this switch as an upgrade to the switch in parentheses)

@Yannie I am more confused now.. Why should I look this switch as an upgrade of the TL-SG2008 v3.0 if no new firmware is being released for it and in some regions appears as "EOL product".. indecision

@Fae Do you have any insight to clear confusion about this ?  are the firmwares somehow possible to interchange with the SG2008 versions ? why the is product names so confusing...even the store where I bought it claims it is an imrproved/updated version of the  TL-SG2008 v3.0 ..which is clearly not true..

I may need to explain this with historical reasons.

The naming rule of the switch was TL-SG[xxxx] at the beginning, later the naming rule changed to T[xxxxx]-[xxx] (we say the T series switch) due to the product upgrade. In order to let TP-Link fans know the same hardware hierarchy product, the T series switch has the corresponding old model name added with brackets behind its model number, just like below. So they are different models but with the same hardware hierarchy and port number.

Then the naming rule now changes back to the initial format TL-SG[xxxx] with a higher hardware version to distinguish from the old model number. To determine whether the firmware can be installed on a switch, we can tell by the model number and hardware version, as well as the firmware release note (sometimes, the firmware can be applied to different hardware versions).

In summary, if the product label shows the model number as T1500G-8T(TL-SG2008) V2.0, then it's T1500G-8T V2.0, we can only install the firmware for T1500G-8T V2.0. If the model number is shown as TL-SG2008 V3.0, then install the firmware for TL-SG2008 V3.0.
