Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: ER605(UN)_V1_1.1.1_20210723

on a 10/100 connection i am only getting 3 Mbps max over openvpn and 1.5 via l2tp using the inbuilt router server. To ensure this is not some isp issue i tried running a openvpn server on a linux box on the same network and got 8-9 Mbps on it. How do i fix this ?

The openvpn server inbuilt is on udp and not even tcp.upd theoritically should have way more performance.

@smmougi

L2TP VPN Throughput Unencrypted: 748.7 Mbps Encrypted: 15.0 Mbps

PPTP VPN Throughput Unencrypted: 719.0 Mbp  Encrypted: 72.0 Mbps

Does not have the info about the OpenVPN. It's avail on the Controller mode.

What's the speed from your ISP? 10/100, the top speed should be 100. Is the 605 the server? You connect a cell/laptop to the server? Clien to LAN?

VPN connection could also be affected by the distance between server and client. If you set up a VPN server for a friend in another country, he/she will of course get a slower speed than the test you get.

What's the ping test result from the VPN tunnel? What's the latency?

And I don't really think this is a router issue. Reason: https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/2002463-there-are-moments-when-openvpn-is-extremelly-slow-with-good-wan-connections
