Model: ER7206 (TL-ER7206)
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.0 Build 20220117 Rel.74491

The address reservation for a Netgear Wireless Access Point (WAC120) is set as 10.1.1.250

The reservation is as follows:

4

2C-30-33-9B-83-28 10.1.1.250
UtilityRoomAP

But the routers DHCP Service assigns 10.1.1.80 which is not in the list of reservations at all.

The system log shows the following assignment:

2022-03-07 02:53:39 DHCP Server NOTICE DHCP Server allocated IP address 10.1.1.80 for the client[MAC: 2c:30:33:9b:83:28].

Any ideas as to what is going on? Other devices seem to be fine on the network with the assignments they're given.

Thanks

Paul

@Hank21

After doing some research with the WAC120's on their latest firmware and other devices on my network, I came to the conclusion that the DHCP client implementation in the WAC120 is flawed. I have two of these devices and they're now living on IP addresses 10.1.1.24x where x is 8 or 9 depending on the device.

Using those IP addresses, the WAC120's work with DHCP just fine.

I have other infrastructure devices and printers etc. which I've allocated 250-253 and they're all fine on the higher IP addresses assigned by the ER7206. Those WAC120's are EOL so unlikely to get a firmware update but Netgear deploying a device with a faulty DHCP client is surprising.

Thanks for the response, it prompted me to do my extra testing.

Dear @Paul2004V

1. Is this router in standalone mode or controller mode?
If it is controller, may I know the version?
2. Is this problem occurring after this AP has been rebooted?
3. Does the IP address switch back and forth between the reserved one and the automatically assigned one after the AP reboots?
4. Can you capture the packets to check?

  @Paul2004V

There was an issue on the TL-R605 router regarding DHCP reservations that was just resolved by TPLINK.  There is a beta firmware available that you can try to see if it resolves your issue :  ER605(UN)_v1_1.2.0_Build 20220328 (Beta)

OmadaLinux v5.13.10 R605 V1:1.3.0 - Build 20230511 R.51317 SG2008P V1:V1.0.8 Build 20230602 R.73473 SG2008P V3:V3.0.5 Build 20230602 R.73473 3 x EAP245 V3:V5.1.0-Build 20230104 R.79433
