Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.1

Hi,

I have two ER605 routers managed by an Omada controller.
The two routers are in two different locations, and the Omada controller is in the same LAN with one of the routers.
Today, I upgraded the firmware of the router located in the same LAN with the Omada controller to version 1.2.0. Everything went well.

Now I would like to upgrade the other router located in the other location. It means that the router and the Omada controller will be in two different locations.
Will the upgrade work? Is the firmware file uploaded before the router connection drops with the controller?

If not, which is the correct procedure for this upgrade?

Thank you for your help

  @Birillo

This is usaly not a problem, the ony thing you have to do is open managemnet/firmware update port to your controller

deafult is  on software controller TCP 8043 and TCP 443 on hardware controller

Hi  @shberge ,

I executed the upgrade, but this did not go well.

Note that the port has been opened as suggested.

It went up to 99% of the upgrade, and it failed while adopting: [Failed]Master Administrator admin failed to upgrade xxxxxxxxx manually.

"xxxxxx upgrade failed: Unknown
upgrade results. The devices cannot connect to
the controller after upgrading. Please check your
internet connection."

Do you have any idea of how to recover from this situation, please?

Thank you

Gabriele

  @Birillo

it's the same as I got before i understand that Tp-Link have change firmware update port, so go to NAT and create a port forward to your controller. default port on software controller is 8043 and default port hardware controller is 443

if you have changed the management port to something else you must use it.

does not work then I do not know what it could be.

all devices on the remote site must have access to the management port on the controller.

  Hi @shberge
I tried to open all the possible ports and tried again to complete the process, but this did not work.
After that, I activated the DMZ to the controller and this worked.

So probably there is a required port that is not one of those mentioned above. I also checked my controller configuration, and there are no other ports configured.
But it is good that the upgrade has been recovered, also because the router was in a different country!

Thanks a lot for your support!!!

  @shberge

Thanks a lot for the document. Now it makes more sense. Definitively I did not have the necessary ports opened

Have a great day
