Since a few days, my router suddenly starts assignming the same IP to different devices on my LAN. 

As a result, my access points lose connections regularly (~once per hour at the moment). The OC200 controller managing the setup is not accessible through local IP because its IP address is wrongly mapped to another device. Therefore I cannot check the router configuration or perform any debugging. Through Omada cloud, I cannot access the router configuration because it only let's you monitor the ports. There, even the switch is not visualized (I expect for the same reason) and the network topology is broken, as a result.

 

Hardware setup

1 TL-R605 VPN router

1 TL-SG2008p switch

3 EAP245 (PoE powered)

1 OC200 Omada controller

Firmware versions are up-to-date, however because OC200 is not accessible I cannot report versions.

 

The days before the issue started, I got regular notification from the OC200 that the maximum number of log entries had been reached. Apparently this is just a notification but should not be problematic for normal operation. 

 

What I tried:

- reboot all hardware

- remove as many LAN connections as possible to avoid any duplicate IP assignments

- replace the OC200 USB stick for storage of backup and logs

Do not use DHCP assigned IP address on OC200, put a fixed IP outside the dhcp scope.

I see many people use dynamic ip on the omada controller but in my opinion this will sooner or later be problems as in your case.

then disconnect everything and have only your pc connected and find your OC200 log on and set fixed IP.

Will connect directly to see what is happening, but as far as I remember I have configured static IP addresses for all networking devices (including the switch, eaps and controller, as well as my NAS which is still operational).

Ok, but have you fixed ip in same range as dhcp scoop?

 

I normally use fixed ip from xxx.xxx.xxx.2-50 and dhcp from xxx.xxx.xxx.51-254 to avoid problems.

and I set fixed ip on device not dhcp reservation on router.

Progress so far:

 

Only connecting to OC200:

Can't find the IP address of OC200. It's not responding at 192.168.1.2 which was always the IP (since over one year). 

 

Connecting to OC200+TL-R605:

I noticed that OC200 had correct IP address assigned (192.168.1.2) but the "fixed IP" checkbox was not set. So I did it and stored config. I checked in "settings -> services -> DHCP reservation" that OC200 is listed there with fixed address. Confirmed.

Next I connected my SG2008P switch (plus attached EAPs). Immediately the switch receives the same IP address and I get the same situation. Adopting the switch takes a long time and succeeds. But I cannot force the switch IP because when I try, the OC200 seems to lose connection.

I feel there is a fixed IP assignment for the switch that does not show up as long as the switch is not connected. So I decide to move the OC200 temporarily to 192.168.1.3 and reconnect with the switch included, such that I can fix the switch IP. However, it turns out that the switch IP cannot be specified. So instead I take the MAC address of the connected switch port and assign a dedicated IP. But it does not change the switch IP (even after full repower of all network equipment) and I surrender. OC200 is now permanently on 192.168.1.3 and the switch (hopefully) will stick at 192.168.1.2

 

I have updated the DHCP range to use 192.168.1.50-254 as you recommended, then rebooted the router+switch+controller to ensure all DHCP leases are renewed. Finally it seems all IPs are now correctly issued.

Will be monitoring from this point, and follow up in case of additional questions.
