@Hank21, thanks for chiming in.

I DO NOT have any time based activities set up. No auto backup whatsoever.

And even if I did, I completely agree with the previous reply. The HW should be able to handle the software you are putting on it...

Anyway, this got me looking at my logs in a different way.

And I just noticed that lately, most re-adoption event entries are followed within 1-3 seconds by a entry that "Logs were sent to xx.xx.xx.xx automatically".

I've been experimenting with syslog lately...

But this has not always been the case:

There was no evidence of controller activity around the time the re-adoption happened.

I have a pretty small network and only 4 devices that can bother the controller (gateway/router, 2 switches, 1 AP).

If that were enough to overload the controller, it would be sad...

I didn't have any scheduled backups either, but  to follow-up on my earlier post: My issue hasn't returned after I rebooted everything, even after turning Fast Roaming back on and Tx power back to high. Maybe the reboot cleared or reset whatever was causing the "automatically readopted" events ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I should also state that it's not just the router showing the following

  • "was connected"
  • "was readopted automatically"

My APs and switches also randomly show the above too. I guess it could be anything on the LAN, but:

  • The OC200 Controller obviously touches everything and it is responsible for doing the connecting and readopting
  • My TL-SG2210P POE Switch powers all (4) APs and the other (2) TL-SG2218 switches - BUT, it's only running at 28% power capacity so, probably not the issue.

My guess at this point is that the issue is that it's the OC200 firmware as this did not occur on earlier versions.  I guess we'll see whenever the next OC200 firmware is released.

My guess at this point is that the issue is that it's the OC200 firmware as this did not occur on earlier versions.  I guess we'll see whenever the next OC200 firmware is released.

To add to my own post on this topic, I'm fairly sure that my issue resides with the OC200.  As far as I can tell, over time all of my equipment - EAPs, switches and router, become disconnected from the OC200 controller at irregular intervals and then quickly reconnect.  But, at no time is there any resulting loss of functionality (i.e., the WAN and LAN remain up and functional).  This puts the issue directly on the OC200 controller.  Since this did not occur until recently (I am unsure exactly when), I am making the assumption it's the current version of the firmware or my OC200 has recently developed a hardware issue.  I believe it's more likely to be the firmware.  Hopefully, we'll see when the next release arrives.

@lflorack,

I believe there's consensus that the culprit is the OC200.

I'm a little baffled why the alerts are only about the router in my case and why I'm only getting the re-adopted message (no connected message).

I thought I had noticed some connectivity issues on my PC as I typed these posts but that was probably a red herring.

In the meantime, I ended suspecting that my docking station was getting flacky. So I bought a USB network adapter (by tp-link ;-) ) and I have not noticed a network glitch in 4 days.

Anyway, Hank asked earlier if we had scheduled tasks on the controller (e.g. auto-backup).

I did not but that got me looking at the logs differently. Per prior reply:

Look at these timestamps. 2 re-adoption events followed within 4 seconds or less by a log sent event.

It appears that the OC200 HW is a little weak to handle some of these background tasks (auto-backup, log gathering/sending).

It's the second time I disable external logging (I uninstalled the Windows based implementation I was using and haven't setup a replacement yet).

Without external logging, I have not seen a single re-adoption event. It's not conclusive just yet but there's pretty good correlation on my side.

I have just located an alternate solution for syslog monitoring. When I re-enable external monitoring, I'll see if these events come back again...

  @EricPerl

I believe that I'm getting the connected and re-adopted messages because I modified my 'Notification' settings in the OC200's Log menu.

@lflorack ,

Because I pushed the logs to an external syslog servers (still disabled right now though), I promoted all message types to alerts (IIRC, events weren't propagated otherwise).

And somehow, yesterday, without obvious correlation to anything else:

Ironically, I also got the connected alert this time, which I don't believe I've gotten before without a good reason (e.g. upgrade)...

It appears that with the update of OC200 Controller 5.3.2 / Firmware 1.17.7 Build 20220623 Rel.35367 that was released yesterday (25 July), my disconnects/reconnects issue has been fixed - at least so far.

Edit: 27 July - I spoke too soon.  Router was dropped and readopted twice overnight.  During the second timeframe, everything else was dropped and readopted too.
