  @btx

I am trying to get ANY VPN connection to work with Omada .  I found a free L2TP VPN site that has several locations and IP addresses to use for connections .

I cannot get ANY connection to work .  I am trying to connect to one of the US servers on

freevpn4you dot net

site .

Should this work ?   I don't know what to put for the remote subnet fields.  I tried 10.8.0.1 / 24 .  Doesn't work .  I tried putting the server IP / 32 or / 24 Doesn't work .

Would I be able to make a L2TP connection to torguard ?  What do I put in the subnet fields ?

Well, I tried their service and the throughput is terrible -

I was using a generic OpenVPN app -

Then .ovpn file that the Torguard website generated would connect but not provide any traffic .  I was able to make a few changes to the .ovpn file and got it working .

Using Torgauad account

dedicated IP from Jacksonville to Miami ( 350 miles ) is about 45 Mbps .

Using my Norsk account - I have

dedicated IP from Jacksonville to Dallas ( over 1,000 miles )  I typically get over 300 Mbps .

( Using the Torguard app for connection to the dedicated IP - the throughput was no better )

Also, NOTHING works with my Omada VPN .  NOTHING .  I have also tried a generic L2TP connection and it does not work .

Yes, I did ask them about setup and they requested a screenshot of the router config screen .

I sent it to them .

I did test a config file for a standard shared server and I got over 600 Mbps for that .  Which is typical for non-dedicated IP connections .

I was basically looking to see if they could match the speed that I was getting for dedicated IP and also to see if I could successfully connect using Omada .

Neither case prevailed .

I can't figure why I can't get ER605 to work for anything VPN .

I wish to find someone with an ER605 that can tell me that they were able to connect VPN to one of the free sights and tell me how they did it .

Or maybe I could send them one of my config files and see if it works for them .

I would mostly want to send my NordVPN dedicated OpenVPN config file and see if it works for them .  ( I would simply change my credentials before and after )

I will look for iperf tests  - I am not familiar with that .

I spent hours with the tech support and they created several config files for me and I created several on their web interface .

I must say that their support / text chat / web interface is the worst disaster I have ever seen .  And I have seen a lot .  I can hardly imagine who did that or how it was possible for such a gigantic mess like that to ever even converge to be operational at all .

The config files, of course, were nearly Identical to the ones that I use for other OpenVPN servers .  So, there couldn't be anything that they would be able to do on my system that I am not already doing .  As a matter of fact, their files would not work with the generic OpenVPN client app .  They would only work in their Windows app .   In the generic OpenVPN app, they would connect, but no traffic would flow or they would connect and keep disconnecting and reconnecting .

I found out that I could remove a param or two and add a param or two to the config files and get them to work .

I have been working with computers and software since 1977 U S Navy P3-C Patrol Aircraft . I had a Radio Shack TRS-80 in 1980 .  I worked as a programmer for over 30 years and built most of my own systems during that time .  I don't need much help with software or hardware ...

The VPN providers do not promise any speed and Xfinity also does not promise anything - they just state that up to 1 Gbps down .  So, I can get over 900 Mbps when downloading large Call of Duty updates ...

This is a free VPN site - so the credentials are not secret - they are published on their web site :

https://freevpn dot me/accounts/

And apparently the password changes every few days ...  ( actually - this was working a few minutes ago and just now it stopped working and I had to go to the web site and get the new password to change my config files )

Note : you will need to change the ' dot ' place holders to ' . ' ( there are two of them in the config file and one in the credentials text file )

  @btx

I posted a config from that site because it had publicly posted credentials .  They are just a web site which has free services . No tech support of which I am aware .

The ONLY tech support that I consulted was TorGuard .

I failed to mention that their tech support staff and personal communications were EXTREMELY EXCELLENT .

I failed to veil the truth by coating it with the smooth modern day politically correct language of :  ' Their tech support website's communication interface was less than perfect ' .

Telling the truth is not necessarily ' bashing ' .

The reason why I was so vociferous in describing their web site is because I spent HOURS on there trying to negotiate where my last reply text and where their last reply text was found .  The interface is that bad .  I was using Firefox and even tried using Edge and it was worse .  Text didn't show up . Different sections of the text replies strewn about in multiple divisions etc .   I finally could not take it any more and just waited for and replied by emails .

Ok, maybe it is me, my computer, my browsers, or my monitors  .

I am sorry that you took offense to my descriptions which led you to question to whom I was referring when writing about TorGuard's tech support website interface .

When you directed :

' Post your omada screenshots here and post the config file for vpn. Make sure to change your pass and username if it is somewhere in configs.. '

I thought you meant for me to post the OpenVPN config file and screenshot .  Not L2TP .

Let me try again .

Since I do not have my own L2TP server .  I have to use a provider .  And a free provider is easy to use .

freevpn4you dot net/l2tp-ipsec dot php

139.180.147.96 Pre-shared key, Username and Password: vpn

Here is a screenshot of my Omada settings for this provider :
