Model: EAP330
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Hi,

I have an EAP330v1 and an EAP225outdoor. Up to now these have worked as standalone APs that share the same SSID.

I am keen to use an OC200 controller for proper fast roam between APs and the EAP330 is now out of date for using Omada Controller. I am therefore looking to upgrade it. (Secondly I have just upgraded internet from 5Mb ADSL to 500Mb fibre and keen to make the most of the new speed!)

The EAP653 looks like the right candidate (I am keen it has WiFi 6) however my concern is that it is smaller and has less aerials than my old EAP330, will it perform as well w.r.t. signal strength etc?

This is a home setup so I don't need a HD AP but I am keen to avoid installing a new AP and finding that I will need a second as WiFi coverage is reduced. My concern of the higher models is the AP is massive!

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks,

Roger

  @rogeranderson

Let me share a short story:

EAP660 HD v1 was a big Access Point..

Then there were many reviews online in those days, and complain that tplink AP are way bigger than Ubiquiti and other brands...

So now tp-link have small AP products! Tplink even make EAP660 HD v2 smaller!

Okay no worry, the main difference is on heat dissipation capacity. It's not a cut off on performance.

But I will choose EAP650 if possible, since it has better transmit power.
