Model: ER8411   OC200   ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I currently have an ER605 as my gateway for my Omada network. I have recently upgraded to higher than 1GB WAN, so am planning to purchase an ER8411 to replace the ER605.

Did a quick scan of the forums here but didn't find many examples of users replacing gateways in an existing system, and wanted to see if there was any suggested procedure for this.

From rough reading, I feel like the approach would be:

  1. Setup the ER8411 standalone, get its subnet IP range and other settings close to your current Omada network settings.
  2. Remove the ER605 and replace it with the ER8411 between your modem and the rest of your network.
  3. Forget the ER605
  4. Adopt the ER8411

Anything I'm missing here? Any thoughts or warnings from other users who have gone through this?

I think you got most of it :-)
but after you have deleted ER605 and before you adopt ER8411, add ER8411 and follow the wizard to get all the settings on ports etc., then you will not lose any settings such as ddns, vpn or other things connected to an interface.

try making a copy of your site with the copy site function and practice it before you start, and remember to backup the controller before you start :-)

@shberge by wizard do you mean the standalone setup wizard for the ER8411, or is there another wizard in the omada controller?

Choose ER8411 here and follow the wizard :-) I recommend taking a copy of your site and practicing there before changing your router

@shberge Interesting, I don't have such an option on my OC200:

yes you have when you delete your old router, but if you do as I recommended, make a copy of your site, there is a copy site option in your site configuration, then you can work offline without destroying anything when you test change router.
