Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 2.1.1

I tried several times to upgrade the ER605 (European version) from v2.1.1 to v2.1.2 always with the error message "Upgrading Router-ER605 failed because the upgrade file is invalid. Please select the correct file.". See attached picture

I started upgrading the "standard" way via the omada sw controller. After that I downloaded the file from the TP-Link support site and tried it manually with ER605(UN)_v2_2.1.2 Build20230210. After that with ER605(UN)_v2_2.1.1 Build 20230115 and I tried to downgrade to ER605(UN)_v2_2.0.1 Build 20220223 always without success and the same error message.

I rebooted the router via omada sw controller and via power off/on. No difference, I always end up with the error message that the file is invalid.

Any idea what I can try to solve this issue? Maybe to delete an old file or data entry somewhere?

Or do I have to do a firmware reset on the router?

Any advice is welcome

Andy

PS: an earlier upgrade from v2.0.1 to v2.1.1 worked without problems

Hi Hank21,

finally I could upgrade the router to the latest firmware.

First I did a hardware reset and re-adopted the router in the omada controller software and tried to update the firmware like you suggested, unfortunately again with the same error.

Therefore I did again a router reset but this time I upgraded the firmware in the standalone mode directly from my laptop. This way it was successful.

Afterwards I re-adopted the router and it's running again under omada control without any problems.

To get all settings back (like the device name) I did a restore of the latest backupfile

@Hank21 thanks for your support.

Hi  @rewe68

May I know the Omada Controller version you are using?

I did a test with the newest version controller V5.9.9 and I cannot see the same issue. Just in case please confirm:

1. You have unzip the fimrware file and upload the .bin file on the controller;

2. Please login the Omada Controller via it's local IP address(not from cloud website);

3. Make sure the router and the controller are in the same network subnet.

Hi Hank21 ,

to answer your questions.

1. You have unzip the fimrware file and upload the .bin file on the controller;

--> Yes, file was unziped and the .bin manually uploaded within the "router setting function" of the omada controller as well as the download/update button at the "devices overview"

2. Please login the Omada Controller via it's local IP address(not from cloud website);

--> I do the updates always locally

3. Make sure the router and the controller are in the same network subnet.

--> Yes there are both on the same IP subnet as well as the AP's and switch

BTW:

I tested the upgrade with omada controller v5.8.4 and since last weekend with v5.9.9 without success.

And a friend of mine has the same hardware and could update without any problems

Thanks for the hint. I used Firefox only.

Tested to update with Edge and Chrome incl incognito mode, unfortunately without success.

Hi  @rewe68

Could you please try a hardware reset of this router?

Don't worry the configurations since all settings are saved on your controller. After resetting you just need to re-adopt the router.

  @Hank21

thank you Hank21.

I will reset the router when there is a good timeslot.

I thought I will end up with a reset.

I'll let you know about the result as soon I did it.
