Hi,

Inside my house I have 4 x Deco M5 and my indoor internet is perfect. However, being a new build house with a LOT of insulation, the wifi barely escapes the house. I've some Blink camera and two are just outside the wireless range and I wouldn't mind getting an outdoor unit that is on the SSID as the indoor unit. I've done my reading but can't seem to be sure. Can the EAP-225 outdoor be set up so that it acts as a mesh and doesn't have it's own SSID? Thanks.

@ConorR Its my understanding that the DECO Mesh and Omada Mesh, which is used by the EAP225 OD, are not compatible.

You can still place and EAP225 Outdoor, wire it to your router or switch inside, and then connect outdoor cameras to it and any devices you use while out there.

@RickJamesBish Would the Deco X50-Outdoor work instead?

@ConorR Yes but my concern is that if your signal coming from inside the house is so weak,  performance may not be what is expected and may not be acceptable. I always wire from inside to outside because of this.  You could always try it and if its not acceptable go with a wire or return if the place where you purchase allows.

@RickJamesBish I intend to wire it using POE and the mesh is both inside and outside. All my M5 Decos are set up as access points. I was hoping the EAP225 or now the X50 could be done the same.

@ConorR   If you are wanting to keep the functionality of the DECO system, then the X50 is what you want. When you wire it to your router, modem or switch, with POE inline, you will have another ROOT AP. When you walk outside with a phone or laptop, if you have Fast Roaming enabled on the DECO system, and the device supports it, it should jump over to the X50. Don't confuse MESH with Fast Roaming. These are separate features.

If you went with the EAP225 OD wired to your router, modem or switch, it is going to be a standalone AP and will not be part of the DECO system, such as Fast Roaming. When you step outside with a phone it will likley hold on to the DECO system wifi much longer and you would need to manually switch over to the EAP225.  This would not affect  the cameras you mentioned since you would want them to stay connected to the EAP225 at all times anyway.
