Finally, and a huge thank you to TP-Link Team...  This is a huge step in the right direction!

DPI is almost a standard now, TP-Link Team bringing the heat again!!

Looks so good in the dashboard!!

  @KimcheeGUN Can you share some screenshots? Any updates on ER-605 DPI support?

  @KimcheeGUN @Hank21

The release notes says this:

DPI: Added support for Deep Packet Inspection in Site view > Settings > Network Security > Application Control, which helps you to manage your network traffic through Application Layer.

I have some concerns about installing this release. Because typically DPI is a CPU intensive process (unless hardware accelerators are used). My concerns/questions are:

(1) - Are the current generation of routers still able to route at 1-Gbps wirespeed when using DPI?

(2) - In what way can I add new application definitions to this DPI engine?

(3) - Is it possible to disable DPI?

(4) - Consider posting some screenshots about these features and capabilities?

Many thanks,

- Will

DPI isn't auto enabled.  You will have to enable it.  So yes, it can be disabled.

I have my ER7206 running about 700MBPS (speedtest.net) out of 1G... BUT I have IPS enabled and DPI.  I am fine with that. Since my client doesn't saturate the 1G speeds anyway.  They peak about 350-400 at most.

I guess replacing the ER7206 with ER707-M2 would overcome that "limitation" - right?

I would assume, since the M2 has a better chipset... Still a dual-core chipset and little more ram.

BUT confirm that the M2 has DPI/IPS available right now?  I don't think it is at this moment.

8411 would too, but again, I don't think DPI/IPS is available at this moment.

Yes - I know - not a lot of progress on the software/product development site!? angel

This goes for the complete Omada portfolio (i.e. including the Pro edition). surprise

I guess I will have to be patience... which is not my strongest "capability"... blush

Cheers - Will

Honestly, there has been progress on the hardware.  It's coming. I'm sure it is.

Like you said, patients isn't my best quality, but I do understand though.  (used to work for their rival, so I understand the process)

  @KimcheeGUN

Just give the performance specs a second look. It looks like the M2 is roughly twice as fast as the 7206.

So based on your 700-Mbps it looks like there is a reasonable change that it can handle 1-Gbps at wire speed with DPI and IPS enabled.

But anything above that... I have some serious doubts... the 8411 with their 10-Gbps ports is probably a better choice.

The reason for bringing this up is that a few regional ISP's are offering 2,5-Gbps-plus (up to 5-Gbps) Internet connections.

We will see how this all works out in the next 3-6 months.

Cheers - Will

It is good to read that DPI is possible. But on my site the DPI feature is grey. My Omada cloud controller tells me "Gateway does not support DPI". I use a ER7206. Which Gateway I have to use?
