Model: EAP660 HD
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.0.1

Hi.
I've recently bought an EAP660 HD(EU) v2.0, FW 1.0.1, I run it with Omada Controller 5.13.22 along with 4x EAP245(EU) v3.0 FW 5.1.0 and 1x EAP650-Outdoor(EU) v1.0 FW 1.0.4.
The EAP660 AP crashes when there are 2-3 clients nearby. Omada first displays "heartbeat missed", in Omada logs I see multiple entries of "AP was connected." The AP stops responding to ping requests and the router logs displays "link down, up, down, up" in matter of 30-40 seconds and then I get a DHCP assigned message. If there are no clients connected to the AP, it runs pretty stable. At this very moment it keeps crashing over and over just because I have an iPhone 11 Pro and an iPad Pro sitting 3m from the AP itself. Both radios are turned on, Wireless mode is Auto. AI WLAN is turned on, WPA2/WPA3, 802.11r on, rekeying 1800s, SSID broadcast on

2,4GHz channel width is 20Mhz, channel 11, Tx Power auto, OFDMA enabled.

5GHz channel width is 80MHz, channel 104, Tx Power auto, OFDMA enabled.

I even took out a thermal camera to see whether the AP overheats, but it doesn't - the highest surface temperature is 45,5°C.

EAP660HD should be able to handle 1000+ clients but I use it at my house, so there are no more than 10 clients...
EAP245 has never ever crashed.
Please advise what to do.

Hi @Ellessar,

Thanks for reporting this issue to the TP-Link community!

May I know how did you power on the EAP660? Via the original POE adapter or a POE switch?

Could you check whether the power supply is stable?

If you exchange the place of the EAP660 and the EAP245, will the issue occur again?

@Hank21 Hi, thanks for the reply.

It seems you're right. My router can sustain about 20W power draw on one port. I tested the EAP with PoE injector for a day and with PoE switch for a day and it didn't crash once. My router reports sustained consumption around 10-12W, but intermitent spikes to at least 22W.

What's weird is that V1 EAP660 HD has max. power consumption 18.5W and V2 EAP660 HD has max. power consumption 22.3W. I've just noticed there is this difference between V1 and V2.

Hi @Ellessar

Glad to hear that you have located this issue. Different hardware versions are mainly distinct by different chips and materials, you may refer to the Specification list on the official website for more details:
