Model: EAP610
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

I have a simplified setup: a 10G switch, a server plugged into a 10G port, an EAP610 access point plugged into a 1G port.

The problem is that the wi-fi transfer speeds from the server to a wireless client are limited to 180-230 Mbit/s.

  • I tried replacing the EAP610 AP with EAP245 - exactly the same effect
  • Tried plugging a laptop instead of the access point - getting full 1G speed
  • This one is really interesting: reducing the link speed between the server and the switch from 10G to 1G fixes the wi-fi transfer speeds and I start getting ~700-750 Mbit/s!
  • Tried playing with the flow control settings on the switch on both ports, but that didn't really have any effect.

How can I troubleshoot this further?

Must be the switch, force the switch port to 1G speed.

I can confirm your observations. However, I get very different results on the same 5 GHz frequency and with max Tx power depending on the AP location, channel number and channel width. That also varies from day to day. When the results are as bad as yours, Omada Controller reports tons of Wi-Fi pockets retries accompanied by very high cannel utilization. You can find some good information about those retries by Googling “802.11 retries.”
