Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a solution for a problem I had with my OC300 Omada Controller not detecting switches on a separate management VLAN.

Setup:

  • OC300 Omada Controller on a separate management VLAN (not VLAN 1 and subnet 192.168.x.x)
  • DHCP server assigning a fixed IP to the controller.

Issue: Controller couldn't detect switches unless they were in VLAN 1, even though ping tests were successful.

Steps That Worked:

  1. Enabled IGMP Snooping: In the VLAN's subnet. Don´t know if that really did anything, but I switched it on.
  2. Reset Switches: Ensured they were in a reset state for adoption.
  3. Assigned IPs in the Same VLAN/Subnet: Manually assigned the switch interfaces to the same VLAN and subnet as the controller.
  4. Configured Uplink Port: Set the uplink port's VLAN to untagged and set the PVID accordingly.
  5. Deleted Old VLAN 1 Interface: Removed the old VLAN 1 interface.
  6. Final Reset Without Keeping IP: Reset the switches without selecting the option to keep the IP.
  7. The switch will keep the untagged vlan setting and get an IP from the DHCP in the same subnet as the controller.
  8. Adopt!

After these changes, the switches finally appeared on the Omada Controller and I could adopt them. Hopefully, this helps anyone facing a similar issue!

That's an incredibly detailed and helpful write-up! Thanks a ton for sharing your solution. I've been struggling with a somewhat similar setup issue lately, and your step-by-step guide might just be the key to cracking it. The whole process of troubleshooting, especially the part about IGMP Snooping and resetting the switches multiple times, sounds really finicky but makes total sense in hindsight.  I'll definitely give these steps a shot and report back if I have any success or additional questions.

@chafeifei Thanks. I saw a couple of threads that ended with no solution. Or, what I like most, someone just saying "I found a solution" without any explanation. I hope this thread helps some folks dealing with this problem.
