ssh backspace and return not working

I have a number of TL-SG3424P switches in use at our company. Some are running Hardware Version V1 (Firmware 1.0.4) and others are running Hardware Version V2 (Firmware 1.0.2)
I an having an issue with all V1 switches when logging in via ssh. The 'backspace' and 'return' key do not work which is making operation near impossible using this method.
If I drop the ssh version on the switch to version 1 only, the 'return' key will function but the backspace key does not on either ssh1 or ssh2.
The V2 switches function perfectly on both ssh1 and ssh2.
From what I can see I am using the latest firmware available for Hardware V1. Am I missing something obvious or is there a major bug here with this Hardware Version?
