There is no support for LAN DNS in ER7412-M2 device. It should be built in. Without this, the router is not fully functional.

I don't understand how this could not be seen as a critical feature for SMB and home users of Omada.

@maliawelli the latest 1.1.0 firmware adds this feature, unfortunately there are problems for IPv6. LAN-DNS only works if clients use the gateway as their DNS server/proxy. However the ER7412-M2 doesn't see to respond on it's IPv6 addresses. So even though you can in theory use LAN-DNS to list IPv6 addresses, no IPv6 networks can use LAN-DNS because the gateway doesn't support DNS proxy on any IPv6 address.

I've tried all sorts of things but found no workaround. Am I missing a way to do this?

The gateway will ping on it's IPv6 address and it IPv4 in IPv6 address, but won't respond to DNS requests.

Gateway responds to pings as you'd expect:

ping 192.168.0.1  -->  works

ping ::ffff:192.168.0.1  -->  works

ping 2001:db8:85a3::8a2e:370:7334  --> works

Buy there is a bug we the DNS proxy only responds to an IPv4 packet:

nslookup example<dot>com 192.168.0.1  -->  works

nslookup example<dot>com ::ffff:192.168.0.1  -->  fails

nslookup example<dot>com 2001:db8:85a3::8a2e:370:7334  -->  fails

This makes LAN-DNS unusable for IPv6 networks.

TP-Link team, it is 2025! IPv6 should come first!
