Hi,
I have a new TP-Link TL-R470T+ V3 that has locked up on me 3 times in the past 2 weeks.
What specifically happens is : The SYS light goes dark, The power light is ON, WAN1 is light steady WAN2 is ligh steadyt and Lan4 is light steady. I can not connect to the router with my web browser.
The only way I can restore the router to operation is to pull the plug and reinsert it.
Anyone else having this trouble?
I am getting ready to return this device.
Only question: should I get a new one on the chance this is a defective unit or is this a common issue?

Locks up randomly every other day not under even a heavy load. Cant access it from the UI. Kills internet in the entire network.
Granted that I have two connections 50mbits and 45mbits but that should not really be an issue.
Thinking of swapping it at Amazon for a new unit or upgrading to TL-ER5120
Got it because of great review on Amazon and price <$50.
Logs useless because they get wiped after the reboot.

Exact same problem. Reported to support yesterday. My unit is brand new, now 5 lockups in 1.5 weeks. Worried about reliability of TP-Link as a choice for hardware. Happy to get the ER5120 as theoski suggested, but.... will it have problems too? =/

Your hardware may be defective, but the locking may also be caused by electric noise in the AC line or a poor connection to the wall outlet. Is the ground connection OK in the outlet?

Thanks paulnr. I have a dedicated power line installed by an electrician a year ago, with good ground service. All network equipment is running from it through 4 APC UPS. I don't have the supplemental ground connected to the TL-R470T+, but I assumed the ground in the power plug would suffice. Not sure how to test for "electrical noise", but no other equipment has any problems (yet). I'll lookup testing the ground and try that anyway.
No response from TP-Link support yet via my email. Guess I'll call.

There is no need of extra grounding for the router, if ground in the power cord/plug is good. I recall I had trouble some time ago with a terminal connected to a line stabilizer. Each time there is a mains voltage flutuation the stabilizer tries to correct the output voltage by switching the taps in the built in transformer. That created lots of noise in the output voltage, so the terminal reset sometimes.
If possible, return the router and ask another one for the dealer

Support got back to me via email and have a brand new firmware release for this model: TL-R480T+_V7_141208 (via 2 separate updates). I suggest you email them if you have trouble so you can try this solution as it may not be public yet.
I won't be able to apply until Thursday and will update thereafter if it resolves the issue.

I have mine TL-R470T+ on battery back up. I have never problem with locking up with other devices, I had raspberry pi, beagle bone, udoo, you name it - arm boards. They are way more suitable for power changes.
There is something in the firmware.
The support line is basically, we are working on a new firmware:
"We are try to make a new firmware for this product. It will release on our website next week. Please wait in patient and try to use the new firmware for this product."

Froze again. I am looking now at Peplink Balance 20 Dual-WAN Router
Much more expensive but the support suppose to be great.
