Region : UnitedStates

Model : TL-ER5120

Hardware Version : V1

Firmware Version : 1.0.6 Build 20130716 Rel.45532

ISP : Telmex

I have been instaling a lot of these routers and one issue that has been a bit of a nightmare is that the App Control database in the Router is very outdated. For example if we block MSN, SKYPE, etc most the time it will not work, and definitely does not work in iOS devices. Also needed are blocks for torrents, Whats App, and all messaging services. Do you have any updates or a place we can download new databases?

I don't think there is an update in their database...Did you check on their website?

Hello,

I had the same question, so I opened a support ticket. I got an answer today saying that it's the latest version. That's not going to work for me. I need to block some applications so I asked if it is possible to add applications myself. If they answer I'll let you know.

Cheers,

"Not possible" is their answer. To bad.
Now that I'm browsing this forum, I'reading a lot of things that sounds like shortcomings. Limitations that you don't find in the manual or specs.

Hi everyone,

I just installed a TL-ER6120 and i just figured that the two functionalities that the customer needed most, are broken!
This is a small local NGO that provides LAN/WiFi internet access for free, for a small (<50) group of users.

- Traffic control: "Seems to work" for some time but, in the best scenario, after a couple of hours it's configured, the configured values are bypassed. This leads the use of the whole bandwidth by only 3 or 4 users (which are demanding high utilization with video streaming and P2P protocols).

- Application Control: The User Guide states that the database should be downloaded from http://www.tp-link.com (page 82 on manual), but in the referred site there is no way one can find the Application Database.

Reading this post, it seems that for those lucky enough that were able to get the application database (who knows when and where), the issues/problems with it are countless due to its age.

TP_Link, if this is correct it is false advertising, and you should be ashamed for it.
If it's not, please jump in and clarify:

- where the application database can be downloaded; preferably a recent version;
- how should we configure the max shared bandwidth in a way it isn't broken after a couple of hours.

Thank you for any help.
