When I plug my tplink 8616 modem into wan 1, I get the link up status..and it just sits on connecting , never acquiring the modem's info. Do I have to specify the info somewhere? I thought the router would acquire that info just like it does when I plug the modem/s directly into my pc.. Also..i know that the tplinks 8616 's default ip address is 192.168.0.1 - same as the load balancing router - is that something i need to change? I'm a complete novice at this , so any insight would be appreciated.

Hi,

yes, Router cannot "route" if interfaces has same network range. Every Interface should have its own.

Change IP-address of your tplinks 8616 to let´s say 192.168.2.1/24

Give your WAN1 something like 192.168.2.x (x = 2 -254), Subnet: 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.2.1 (which is the IP of your tplinks 8616)

Copy 192.168.2.1 to DNS and it should work for you.

Also a static route is created automatically for you to access your 8616 furthermore.

w/best regards
