We have a TP-Link Omada network setup with:

  • OC200 Controller (v2)

  • ER8411 Gateway (v1)V1_1.3.1 Build 20250515

  • 8x EAP660 & 3x EAP225 Access Point

 

 

Issue Update:
After initial testing, the Lenovo ThinkPad E16 (Ubuntu) still fails to connect specifically to EAP225 access points, while:
✅ Works fine with EAP660 (Wi-Fi 5)
✅ No issues on Windows/Mac/mobile devices
❌ Fails on Ubuntu (EAP225 only) with errors:

✅ ER7206 Gateway → No issues (Ubuntu connects fine to EAP225)

❌ ER8411 Gateway → Ubuntu (Lenovo E16) fails to connect to EAP225 (but works on EAP660)

  • "Connection Failed"

  • "Authentication Required" (repeatedly)

 

 

Troubleshooting Steps Tried:
✔ Restarted APs, router, and laptop.
✔ Forgot and re-added the Wi-Fi network.
✔ Checked for driver/firmware updates.
✔ Tried both WPA2/WPA3 and WPA2-only modes.
✔ Tested different SSIDs (2.4GHz vs. 5GHz).

 

TP-Link firmware bugs affecting Linux clients.

 

Has anyone faced similar issues with Ubuntu + Omada Wi-Fi? Any known fixes?

Thanks for posting here.

To better understand the issue, would you please share some screenshots when the Lenovo failed to connect to the wifi?

 

You may forget the EAP225 from the controller, and manage it under its standalone interface, create some test SSIDs with different kinds of security mode, and let us know the results.

 

What's the performance when the security mode is None?

 

Please also test with different channels.

  • The EAP225 works perfectly in standalone mode (no connection drops, stable performance).

  • When managed by the controller, the Lenovo device fails to connect (even after multiple attempts).

  • Tried multiple 2.4GHz (Channels 1, 6, 11) & 5GHz (36, 149).

My TP-Link EAP225 access point works perfectly when connected to an ER7206 router, but when switched to the ER8411 (firmware v1.3.1, Build 20250515), devices (especially Lenovo laptops) fail to connect or experience drops.

✅ Standalone Mode (No Controller):

  • EAP225 works flawlessly (all devices connect).

  • Confirmed working on multiple channels (1,6,11 – 2.4GHz / 36,149 – 5GHz).

  • Security Mode Tests:

  • Open (No Security): Not Working

  • WPA2-Personal (AES): Intermittent failures.

  • Works in standalone but not when managed.

  • Will share ER8411 system logs and Omada settings if needed.

Thanks for the reply.

 

Now that the issue disappeared under standalone mode, please check the features on the controller and turn them off to see if it helps.

Settings > Site Settings > Wireless features

 

And also the SSID config page

 

 

You can create a test SSID for these tests.

Thank you for your guidance. I have ensured that all options under the "Multicast/Broadcast Management" section are disabled, as advised:

  • Multicast-to-Unicast Conversion (IPv4 and IPv6) is disabled.
  • ARP-to-Unicast Conversion is disabled.
  • Multicast Filtering is also disabled.

However, the issue persists despite applying these changes. Could you please suggest additional troubleshooting steps or other potential areas to investigate?
