EAP610 rebooting when connecting with Mac Mini M1

Hi everyone,
I’ve been having a strange issue with my EAP610 for quite a while now — probably close to a year.
Whenever I connect to the AP using my Mac Mini M1, the access point reboots shortly after the connection is established. After reboot, there is nothing relevant in the logs, likely because the reboot clears them. Power is not the issue — the AP is otherwise stable and works normally throughout the day. If I don’t use the Mac Mini, the AP runs without any problems.
To make things more annoying, I also have another EAP connected via mesh to this AP, so every reboot affects the whole setup.
The issue happens consistently the first time I turn on the Mac Mini each day. I haven’t been able to reproduce it by turning the Mac off and on again later — it seems to only happen during the first connection of the day.
Has anyone experienced something similar or have any idea what might be causing this?
Thanks!

I’d like to thank the TP-Link support team for helping me solve the issue.
After thorough testing, it turned out that the OFDMA feature on the 5 GHz band was causing my EAP610 to randomly reboot shortly after my Mac Mini M1 connected to it.
TP-Link provided a debug firmware that confirmed the root cause, and then a beta firmware that fixed the issue. Since installing this version and re-enabling OFDMA, I have not experienced any reboots.
TP-Link also confirmed that this fix will be included in an upcoming official firmware release.
If anyone is experiencing similar random reboots when certain devices connect, I recommend trying to disable OFDMA temporarily and checking if the issue persists.
Thanks again to the TP-Link team for their assistance and responsiveness!

This issue is really strange. Please help answer the following questions:
- What is the model of the mesh AP? If connecting the MAC to the mesh AP, will it reboot?
- During the reboot process, did you observe the EAP's LED status? Did it turn off?
- How do you determine the first connection each day? Is it the first connection on different dates? To rephrase, if the MAC disconnects for a few hours within the same day and then reconnects, will it still not cause the EAP to reboot?
4. What's the hardware version and firmware version of the EAP610? Better share a screenshot of the device page.
5. What kind of controller are you using? What's the firmware version?

Thanks a lot for taking the time to look into this — I really appreciate your willingness to help. Here are my answers to your questions:
-
Mesh AP model: The mesh AP is an EAP610-Outdoor. I haven’t tested connecting the Mac Mini directly to it yet, but I’ll probably need to create a unique SSID on that AP to force the Mac to connect to it.
-
LED status: I have LEDs disabled, and the AP is located in a different room than the Mac, so I haven’t directly observed the LED behavior. However, based on the uptime and logs, the AP clearly goes through a reboot cycle — I assume the LED lights up normally during boot and then turns off based on the configuration.
-
First connection per day – update: I take back the claim that the issue only happens once per day. Yesterday, I did some testing:
-
If I disable Wi-Fi on the running Mac and reconnect, the AP does not reboot.
-
But if I fully shut down the Mac and then turn it back on, the AP does reboot — in this case, it happened about 10 minutes after connecting.
That’s another strange thing — the reboot usually doesn’t happen immediately after the connection but with a delay of several minutes.

Hardware & firmware versions:
-
Both the EAP610 and the EAP610-Outdoor are V1 hardware.
-
They are running firmware 1.4.3, which I believe is a beta version — I usually install the latest available versions hoping they might fix the issue.
-
-
Controller: I'm using the Omada On-Premises Controller, currently on version 5.15.24.17.
Additionally, I checked the logs of my PoE switch (SG2210P v5.20) and only see a record of the Ethernet port dropping out. That makes sense, since it would happen during the AP reboot.

Hi @Spidla
Please try testing this on the EAP610-outdoor.
This helps identify if the EAP610 is the cause of the problem.

If I connect the Mac Mini to the EAP610-Outdoor (which is mesh-connected to the main EAP610), the issue does not seem to occur.
It also appears that the AP does not reboot if I set the wireless mode to 802.11a/n/ac only.
