Issue with EAP225 – Struggling to Get 1Gbps Connection

Hi everyone,  I’ve been facing a frustrating issue with my TP-Link EAP225 access point. Despite using a working cable, it’s been a challenge to get it running at 1Gbps. Here’s the setup and the tests I’ve done:

🔧 Initial Setup:

  • Cat5e cable connected to TP-Link TL-SG1005P on port 1

  • Switch settings: default recovery and priority

  • The AP powered on but only connected at 100 Mbps

  • Sometimes it didn’t power on at all

🔁 Tests Performed:

  • Rebuilt the cable from scratch → no success

  • Tried 5 branded cables and 2 custom-made → some didn’t power the AP

  • Switched ports on the switch → no improvement

  • When it did connect, speed was stuck at 100 Mbps

  • ADSL speed test: max 3 Mbps, dropped to 0.8 Mbps after 15 days

  • After rebooting everything, speed returned to 100 Mbps

💡 Unexpected Discovery:

  • Found an RJ45 cable (not sure of the spec) that made the AP work at 1Gbps

  • Traffic finally passed from the EAP225 Wi-Fi to the switch

  • Previously, only the green link light was on, but no traffic passed

🧪 Additional Checks:

  • All cables tested with my PC and confirmed working

  • Switch TL-SG1005P works perfectly with my PC

📣 Looking for Feedback: Has anyone experienced similar issues with the EAP225?  Could this be a compatibility issue between the switch and the AP, or something related to cable quality or connector pins?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

@frankz66

The drop in speed is usually an issue with wire 4,5,7 or 8 continuity and I think power can be supplied using wires 1,2,3 and 6 or using wires 4,5,7 and 8.  It seems odd that the switch would cause all of the inconsistent behaviors you noted.

Here's a picture of my 225's ethernet port.  I couldn't eliminate the shadow, but all the wires are uniformly set.

Hi @frankz66,

Based on the information provided, my best guess is that the cable is not making a good connection where it plugs into the AP.

  • Check the port on the AP for debris or damaged/misaligned wires that might prevents all 8 wires from contacting properly.
  • I've also found that cables with large boots, bulky strain relief molding, and/or stiff jackets can prevent the connectors from making optimal contact with the AP's port.  Try a bootless flexible patch cable if you can; I personally like to use slim cat6a cables to wire my APs.

I'm afraid the problem is sg1005p . I'have used this AP with model sg1005LP and not haven't a problem . i'have today a 1005LP for test . Can you make a photo for internal omada eap225 rj45 pin ?I noticed that the first and last slats are perfectly higher than the central ones, I don't think they are bent as they are perfectly raised and aligned.
