Model: CPE710
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I have 4 acres, with my house and a steel shed that's my workplace about 100m away.

I have fibre to the house, a netcom modem and then a wireless mesh network in the house using Deco M5s which I've extended to the shed with an M5 in an outbuilding and then one in the shed which houses my workshop and future office (as soon as i can get the internet working properly up there). But this only works when the roller door to the shed is open as it's a giant faraday cage when the door is shut. So, i've installed a pair of CPE710s to act as a wireless bridge - one on the house and one on the shed, in direct line of sight.

I want my existing house wireless network to be the same in the shed so I can have seamless roaming and so that I can access media on a RAID array attached to my computer when it's in the office and I'm in the house.

We tried setting the House CPE710 as an access point that's plugged directly into the modem and the one at the shed as a client and this worked in terms of actually being able to set it up as per the (very poor) instruction manual. However, I was intending to use a Deco M5 in the shed as an access point but I can't call it the same name as my other network because apparently "too many networks with this name already exist). So that's the first issue that I don't know how to solve. Do i have to unplug my existing network, set up the deco as the same and then turn everything back on again or is this going to confuse the crap out of everything? So far, I can't set up the decos unless my phone with the app on it is connected to a network so that's a problem.

My question is what configuration do i need to set my CPE710s in so that my existing wireless network is just bridged to the shed and then exists within it? Is it AP router mode or something else?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm so frustrated that I'm very close to taking a sledgehammer to these things and digging a 100m trench and putting a cable in instead. It shouldn't be this hard.

Hi  @GeneralFandango

I was under the impression that i have to configure the deco in the shed as an access point and then plug the network cable from the CPE710 into it and then that would give me wifi in the shed, even with the door closed. Is this corret?

>>>Yes, this  is correct. You can configure the Deco as AP mode.

ISP modem router---Deco--CPE710_AP mode))))(((((CPE_client mode---Deco_AP mode

To bypass the error you mentioned, you can create a new network for the deco_AP mode.

steps are below:

1. connect your phone to the Deco_AP mode;

2. Go to the APP, click the top right button, choose Create a Network.

3. Follow the steps to finish the config.

After successfully config, everything will work as you expected.

Hi  @GeneralFandango

Thanks for posting here.

You have correctly configured the CPE. It appears you've successfully established a wireless bridge with the two CPE710. Once formed, this set of CPEs will function just like an Ethernet cable.

Your current issue seems to be with the Deco configuration?

because apparently "too many networks with this name already exist). So that's the first issue that I don't know how to solve.

>>>What does this mean? CPE_client mode won't broadcast any wifi network.

I believe what you need to do is to finish configuration of the Deco system.

To be clear, the topology would be like below:

ISP modem router---Deco--CPE710_AP mode))))(((((CPE_client mode---Deco

  @Vincent-TP

Hi Vincent.

Thanks for the reply. I think i understand more clearly how the wireless bridge works now and irt's encouraging to know that I was doing it right the first time.

I obviously wasn't clear about the decos. I was under the impression that i have to configure the deco in the shed as an access point and then plug the network cable from the CPE710 into it and then that would give me wifi in the shed, even with the door closed. Is this correct or should I just leave it in its current configuration which is as a wifi extender and again, plug the network cable from the CPE710 into it?

If i have to configure it as a new access point, the app won't let me call it the same name as the wifi network in the house, it wants me to call it something else because it can still detect the wifi signal from the wifi repeaters from the house wifi but for some reason, the app won't let me set up a wifi network unless my phone (where the app is) is connected to some sort of wifi already. Don't ask me why, that's just the only way it'll find the deco in setup mode. So that would mean I have Wireless 1 and Wireless 2 connected by the wireless bridge. This means that I can't access media on a mac connected to wireless 2 from an apple tv on wireless 1, without significant messing about, right? So, what I really want is as follows:

wireless 1 in the house -> wireless bridge -> wireless 1 in the shed.

If i can access media in one place easily, even if it's on a different wifi network, then I'm happy to have two wifi networks which sounds like it might fix my issues. I just don't know how to set that up in my mac. It current;y works just fine when all the pieces of hardware on on the same network.

  @GeneralFandango The 710 connected to your router should be set up as an access point with the second set up as a client.  Make sure you change the ip addresses on them (I like to put my first ap as .0.250 and client as .0.249.  After that, you should be able to plug the Deco into the LAN side of the poe adapter.  You may want to factory reset the Deco.  Then, you should be able to go back to your house an add the Deco unit from the house using the phone app when you're back on that wifi.
