Model: EAP773
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

EAP773 currently broadcasts a "TP_TX_VAP" SSID when the 6ghz band is active, which is enabled for certain devices with early implementations of WiFi 6E/7. Broadcasting the SSID was employed by several vendors as a workaround for these devices, however, it is now not needed as the majority of these devices have been updated to properly adhere with the 6E/7 spec. Other vendors have disabled the broadcasting for this type of SSID, allowing for a cleaner user experience. Currently, many clients attempt connecting to the broadcast network as it appears as an open network, and their devices remember these networks by default, causing issues when attempting to rejoin the correct/desired network.

Hi  @czapp97

Hello, thank you for posting on the TP-Link community. We appreciate all your feedback and feature requests here.

While we don't have any specific details to share regarding whether the feature can be implemented across all EAPs or when it might be, I'll ensure that I log this feature request and pass it along to the team.
Feel free to let us know of any other feature requests you may have; we’d be happy to send them up for you.

Side Note: Please don't forget to make your vote.

@czapp97  I use network shutdown but it doesn't work on this pre-installed SSID, I don't want this radiation at night, we who don't need this compatibility must be given an opportunity to turn it off, they are too bad of TP-Ling to ignore us.

Hi all, hi Vincent-TP,

- every feature on (semi-)professional hardware should be adjustable by the admin. The manufacturer should not be the one who decides on hard coded features.. This means that if an admin needs it, they should be able to switch it on. Everyone else should be able to switch it off.

- If certain hardware is not 100% compatible with the infrastructure provider's hardware, this is not the infrastructure's problem. In this case, a Samsung S21 (mentioned here as an example) will probably only be able to cope with 2.4 and 5Ghz without any problems.

- Any unsecured interface, and any open SSID is unsecured for me, is insecure!

It would be very nice if you could make the feature adjustable.

Thank you!

TP_TX_VAP should be able to be disabled or hidden. I understand that even for the intended purpose, it can be hidden (not broadcast). Since it is a kludge for certain poor equipment, it should also be able to be disabled for people who don't want that.

@Vincent-TP I think this problem applies to the EAP772 model also.

At a minimum TP_TX_VAP should be not broadcast / hidden. I understand that even for the intended purpose, that broadcasting the SSID is not necessary.

Since this is a temporary fix for some bad Wifi 7 products, it should be able to be disabled for people who don't what this kludge.
