Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

The new VOIP phone is not as clear as the old analog phone we have in the office.  It seems to have a bit of a deeper base tone to it.   We have a PoE TPlink 1600G-28TS managed switch hardware v2 (4 of the last ports are covered up with a plastic cover).  I have read multiple online TP-Link articles and tried to set up, but none described exactly the switch I am using.  Some of the settings are new or missing when I was trying to follow the articles I found on the internet.  The VOIP phone allows daisy chaining for my desktop to get connected to the LAN and internet.  In QoS menu, I have enabled Voice VLAN and set it to priority 7.  In the Port Config page, when I set the Port Mode from "manual to auto", the Member State become inactive.  I am unsure if I should do anything about it.   I have read something on LLDP-Med that if it is enabled, it will help. After enabling that on my port, it did help a bit more, but still not quite as clear as the old phone.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Voice is not clear. Does it break up? If it does not break up or have any other intermittent issue, that should not be a switch problem.

Did you swap with a different switch to test and compare the results?

Assume this might be a cable or other issue. QoS does not improve the sound quality. As long as packets are forwarded properly(meaning your voice call is fine and smooth), that should not be a problem with the QoS.

@Clive_A No, it does not break and is not intermittent. At some point, I do experience an internet pause for about 10 seconds, and this has never happened before. I have only enabled VoIP and used the new VoIP phone in the last couple of weeks, so since I have to run around in the office, that has not bothered me. I will have to observe and see if it has something to do with the VoIP setup.

Re:T1600G-28PS - help with improving voice quality and short random internet disconnection issue

Update: Today, my internet got disconnected again and it was out of the blue for about 30 seconds.  I am beginning to wonder if it has to do with the VOICE_VLAN I have set up for the VOIP phone.  This has never happened before.  Are there certain settings on the switch which I can tweak to solidify the connection?

QoS or any other settings should not affect the call or even disconnect your Internet access.

You can reverse the settings to the status where you did not tweak the VLANs and monitor from there.

@Clive_A  will check and if reversing does keep the internet consistent, so might have to look at alternative poe switch unless there are settings to consider.   Cant have this happening regularly.
