password issue underscore

Hi,
(You can only attach three devices to the post - there is also an EAP772)
I use one SW controller, two switches and two EAPs. If 1. the main account has an underscore in the password and 2. you want to re-adopt a device after a controller loss or isolated status, this goes wrong.
As soon as the password has no underscore, this works without any problems. I have tried this several times.
The problem occurs with all firmware versions from the end of 2024 as well as from 2025.
Greetings

Hi @nachholer
If I understand correctly, you're saying:
When the controller's admin account password contains underscores, attempting to adopt disconnected/isolated SDN devices will throw an error. Is that correct?
If yes, please kindly give us the following info to understand the situation better:
1. Is the involved account a local account or a cloud account? Or doesn't it matter?
2. Will all kinds of SDN devices (gateways, switches, and EAPs) do the same thing? Or only affect EAPs?
3. A screenshot of the error message page;
4. How about removing the underscore from the account password?
5. Does the device account contain an underscore?

I'm using only local accounts.
2. Will all kinds of SDN devices (gateways, switches, and EAPs) do the same thing? Or only affect EAPs?
All four above mentioned devices affected. I noticed it when I was trying out the devices and the software controller at the beginning.
3. A screenshot of the error message page;
Please excuse me. I can't just test your issues. I'm in my home office and can't just take a device out of the network.
The error message was always that the device in each case could not be taken over.
As soon as I changed the password so that it no longer had an underscore, it worked several times without any problems.
4. How about removing the underscore from the account password?
Please see 3.
5. Does the device account contain an underscore?
At the beginning I hadn't seen the difference between the accounts. In the beginning, I simply used the main account for everything.
When I wrote the problem here, I noticed the different accounts. My main account now has a password with an underscore, the device account has a few more characters, but no underscore.
I use the Controller in German, with a German keyboard etc. etc.
It's all about the password. The name is continuous and has no special characters.
I'm using a software controller, version 5.15.24.19. But it also happened with the two or three previous versions.
The versions of the devices are as follows:
Thanks!

Hi @nachholer
Thank you for your response. This is the first time we've received such feedback. Our local tests confirm that passwords containing underscores work perfectly fine.

>>may I ask if your password includes any special characters unique to the German language?

The password is 16 characters long, only letters (upper/lower case), digits and the underscore, otherwise no special characters.
What can I say? Since I've had your devices, I've fallen into several traps.
I have reset the controller several times for “practice” purposes, tried to adopt devices several times and always stumbled over them. I either had to disarm the password or reset the device completely.
The last incident was when I tried to switch the EAP670 from wired mode to mesh mode.
Maybe I can experiment with the EAP670 next weekend by reconnecting it to the cable and trying to put it back into mesh mode. If I find the time, what should I document for you?

Hi @nachholer
Thank you for getting back to me. If it's convenient, please record a screen capture showing the failed process of re-adopting with underscore and the successful process of adopting without underscore. Please include the error message when the devices cannot be adopted.

Hi,
I'm still looking into this. At the moment I'm trying to work through my ticket with Candy (2,4Ghz random disconnect). For that, I need the same EAP670 with which I want to show you the password issue. I'll definitely get back to you on this.
Regards,
M.
