Video files access or Automated video exports

Hi
I have setup my NVR and cams to record directly to the computer on a local drive.
Question is, when i go into the folders foir each camera, there are pre-allocated dat files taking up the storage for the video recordings and there is no way to access the video files as they are.
And I can't seem to find a way to export the video files on an automated schedule.
Is there a way to set a automated way where the videos can be exported to a local folder every few minutes with a speicific naming to indicate the date and time?
Thanks for any help!!!

.dat is the file that has not been saved. It is an ongoing transcription from code to video. That should not worry you.
After the video is transcribed, it will become a video file.
There is no auto export as the files have been saved on the local drive.
The naming of the files, I recall, is in order.

@Clive_A I have left it to keep running for overnight but they are still DAT files. I do not see any MP4 files being created. Seems like they are containers For the stream only? Please advise. I tried using VLC to open the files but it looks to be like "12 hours" but not an actual video file.
Or do you know how I can create the MP4 files from the DAT files?

Let me confirm this with the test team.
I think I recalled that part wrong. .dat would be the untranscribed file. It is readable on the NVR.
If you need the regular video file, it seems that require the NVR to export so it becomes the .mp4 format.
There is no schedule or automated way to export the video. It is manual now.
