In the United States, in recent years, the Omada networking equipment seems to be more expensive than Ubuiquti's Unifi equipment for similar products. Is this an issue with tarrifs or has TP-Link just decided to charge more?

When I first started using TP-Link's Omada networking equipment they were noticably cheaper than Ubiquti's Unifi products. Often 10% or even 20% cheaper. And so the more limited eco system and lower levels of fit and finish seemed like a reasonable trade off. Recently I've noticed that similar Unifi products are equal or even cheaper than the Omada products.

For example the TP-Link Omada TL-SG3428X-M2, a 24-port 2.5 Gbps switch with 10 Gbps uplink is $520.

A similar spec'd Ubiquti Unifi switch like the Pro Max 24, a 24-port 2.5 Gbps switch with 10 Gbps uplink is $450. The Unifi switch has a lot of extra frilly features as well such as lighted ethernet ports, a touch screen display, and DC power backup port.

The Wifi 7 devices are pretty evenly matched in price, but not cheaper like the used to be. The EAP720 and EAP770 are 99 and $195.

The Unifi equivalents as best I can tell, the U7 Lite and U7 Pro are 99 and $189.

So if prices are basically the same or cheaper for Unifi, which also has a larger eco system of devices and accessories, what is the advantage of buying into the Omada system now days?

What happened to TP-Link's budget friendly pricing?

--------------

(NOTE: the language content censor system won't allow 99 or 100 with a dollar sign before them. Why is that?)

It seems that the SG3428X-M2 has 24 x 2.5G ports, while the Ubiquiti one only has 8 x 2.5G ports and 16 x 1G ports.

EAP723 89.99 vs U7 Lite 99

EAP772 169.99  vs U7 Pro 189

I won't buy EAP720 or EAP770 as I use PoE switches to power the access points. I won't pay extra for the power adapter which is not necessary for my setup.

TP-Link actively monitors the market to ensure our products remain competitively priced.  Often beating the pricing of our competitors with comparable features. For Example, when comparing products like the SG3428X-M2, the EAP723, and the EAP772, TP-Link often outperforms the competition's similar products—such as the SG3428X-M2.  This product has three times the Multi-Gig ports compared to its Ubiquiti equivalent that you mentioned. The advantage of purchasing Omada is that it is often the best value for your dollar.  For example, our Management software is offered as a free service, where our competitors often charge for this. Feature sets are often better equipped at the same price point. Not to mention, TP-Link products are, from design to manufacturing, made in-house, and TP-Link does not charge for support.

@Leo_CA - Good point with the 8x 2.5G ports and 16 1G ports and included PoE injectors. Somehow I overlooked that. It looks like the Pro HD 24 for $600 would be the actual eqivalent 24 port switch.

I guess partially I was just surprised by how close the pricing is now days. We haven't purchased TP-Link in a while because everyone is adding on to or repairing Unifi systems, but looking back in 2015-2019 when we were doing a lot of TP-Link devices the EAP225 was about 70 while a unifi equivalent was 100. The T1600G-28TS was $200 while a similar Unifi switch was $300.

So after what should be a decade of advancement it is surprising to realize that an upgraded replacement for the T1600G-28TS is more than double the price. Perhaps networking standards require 20 years to double at the same price point instead of 10 years like the PC industry and perhaps we'll need another 10 years to see the 2.5G standard replace 1G at similar pricing.

Yes, it seems so. The 2.5G is still expensive now. All I noticed is that the ER707-M2 is really affordable at the current price. However, it's just a 2.5G gateway. Hopefully, we can buy cheaper 2.5G switches soon. You don't have to buy the products from Amazon if you can have an account with the distributors. It could save you some money.
