Subject: PPPoE not reauthenticating when authentication lost

We have a recurring problem where our provider will lose our authenticated PPPoE session and our internet will stop working until we reboot the TL-ER604W which appears to work because it reauthenticates PPPoE.

Clicking disconnect in the router interface doesn't fix the situation.

Our internet is down until we reboot the router.

what is your topology? ISP--modem (bridge mode)--router?
do you mean the PPPoE can not redial when it drops online?
Have you try to update the firmware to the latest version?

Yes, ISP<->Modem in Bridge mode<->Router authenticating PPPoE.

Correct, if our ISP loses our PPPoE authentication for any reason the router does not reauthenticate even though all internet connectivity is lost.

Automatic online detection is enabled. TP-Link Tech support had us change that to manual - we'll see how that goes.

Yes, updated the firmware and it happened again.

Thanks

For the record, after contacting TP-Link support directly they had me set Online Detection to manual (I set IP to our office's external IP and DNS to Google's 8.8.8.8) and now it appears to be able to reauthenticate PPPoE when the session is lost. I've confirmed this in the logs. Hopefully it's the same problem as we've been having when our upstream goes down.

Apparently, Online Detection in Automatic mode sets the IP to your gateway which for us was our provider's modem which didn't look like it was going down. So setting it to an external IP forces the router to determine internet is not available and then to reauthenticate.

We also have Keep Alive enabled. I'm not sure if that matters or not.
