Model: EAP772
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.14 Build 20240801 Rel. 78844

Hi,

I just had an EAP772 AP get stuck in adopting after being flaky. I rebooted the entire system and upgraded the controller firmware. I went to check the AP firmware and noticed it is on an old build from 20240801. I tried to update and it is on the latest version. I checked the EAP772 downloads page and v1 hasn't had an update yet V2.6 is on build 20250327. So my question, is the EAP772 v1 still supported with updates?

Hi  @pendamos

Thanks for posting here.

Please don't worry- we are actively working on the new firmware for the EAP772 V1.

However, the exact release date has not been finalized yet. We appreciate your continued interest.

Hello,

I do want to raise a concern, though. The EAP772 V1 hasn’t received an update since September 2024. So, that's well over a year now. Meanwhile, V2 already has got several updates.

The feature gap between V1 and V2 is becoming enormous. Things like Ping-Pong Roaming Suppression, Non-Stick Roaming, Cluster deployments, Prohibit WiFi-sharing and much more. In the V2 firmware changelogs I also see things like: "Encrypted the firmware and optimized the algorithm to enhance the overall security of the firmware". If the difference between typical hardware revisions within one product isn't that big, why does development on V1 looks stalled? I would think that releases of improvements V2 and V1 should follow up close to each other?

I currently own 1x SG3428X-M2 v1.2 and 2x EAP772 v1. Since I got those new products 1 year ago, I already received lots of amazing updates for the managed switch - I can't complain. I'm very happy with the experience of Omada so far! But, I want to use the Cluster system very soon but I am limited by the firmware of my EAP 772s:

"The current device firmware does not support controller cluster
deployment. The device may go
offline after nodes offline or
rebalance. Please upgrade it to a
firmware that supports cluster."

I don't think it's right to say that the EAP772 product line is already outdated? Should I keep the Cluster deployment even with this notification on the EAPs?

By reading other topics I found out that TP-Link Staff confirmed that hardware revisions aren't something to worry about that much. Is this still the case? So am I right to say that all EAP772 hardware revisions with its promised new firmware are relatively comparable (with the exception of like 100 to 200Mbps speed differences, I'm okay with that).

Can you inform us on something like a roadmap, other commitments?

Thanks in advance!
