Heartbeat missed and stability issues for EAP653 after firmware / Cloud controller update
Hi all,
In my home setup I have 3 EAP653's that often show heartbeat missed. When this happens, it appears the clients connected to these AP's loose network connection and try to connect to other AP's. Local ping to these AP's keeps stable during these events, and uptime for the affected AP's in the Omada portal is not reset.
I also have a EAP610 and a EAP225 that work just fine. I have no other Omada gear yet, my PoE switch and router are from other brands. For management of the AP's I'm using Omada Central Essentials (in the EU), so no on-prem controller.

The issues started with either a firmware update of the EAP653's, or the update of Omada Central Essentials to v6, I can't be sure. Before that everything was running smoothly.
I already have tried:
- Power cycling AP's and PoE switch
- Factory reset of EAP653
- Manually trying to downgrade firmware to the latest online version (1.1.3). Strangely enough the AP rejects that firmware.
Has anyone come across something similar?

Hi @MR.S
The link I sent you earlier addressed the issue related to upgrading to version 1.3.4. However, I have now shared another version with you, which also resolves the problem—It can be update from 1.3.50.
Looking for the result this time. Thanks.

Does a version of this latest one exist for 650 v1 ? interested to put it on a EAP that is hardly used to compare its stability against the other two version 1.1.3 and 1.3.50

Currently, we have only received feedback related to the EAP653 and have not encountered similar reports for the EAP650. Therefore, there is no firmware specifically for the EAP650 at this time.
Thank you for your attention! If you observe any issues with the EAP650, please share details and we will investigate further.

I thought they are effectively same unit with a different SKU because the 650 comes with PSU and the 653 does not. Interesting. Will keep an eye on mine anyway

I have the access point connected to cloud essential to test a bit, but it looks like there are problems with the new firmware as well.

I'm going to try adopting it to my on-prem controller at home to see if the same thing happens there.

Hi @MR.S
Thank you for your feedback. We have identified the cause of this situation and are currently working on it.
Additionally, these phenomena should not affect normal network usage—they are merely display issues. Has this had any impact on your network connectivity?

I'm on 1.3.90 with 2 EAP653 for almost a week now. What I notice is that on one of them memoryusage is slowing creeping up to 80% with only very few clients. While the other one still has around 63% memoryusage no matter how many clients (10 at the moment). Strangely enough the one that gave me the most problems before is now working better than the other one.
I also reactivated fast roaming, non-sticky roaming and bandsteering. This does not seem to work properly with these AP's. I noticed that some of the clients are not connected to the most logical AP.
Another thing that I can't explain is why on these AP the 2,4GHz band seems to overload so fast with only a few clients. At this moment I can't imagine more than 15 clients being connected to the same AP. While they are advertised for far more than that.
The image shows the more problematic AP. The dips in memoryusage are there because of a scheduled reboot. I disabled that later that week as shown.
but. still no disconnected AP from the controller.
