Model: TL-SG1428PE
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version:

I recently set up a TP-Link 28-Port Gigabit Easy Smart Switch with 24-Port PoE+ (TL-SG1428PE) for my small office network. Everything seemed fine at first, but I have noticed that a few PoE devices specifically some IP cameras and an access point - either fail to power on or randomly disconnect.

All cables are Cat6 and under 50 meters, and the total PoE load should not be exeeding the switch's rated power budget. I have tried rebooting and even updated the firmware, but the issue still comes up occasionally.

Has anyone faced similar problem with this model?? Could it be a power allocation issue or something related to port configuration?? Any troubleshooting tips would

Hi @wajahatali,

Some things to do to help isolate the issue...

  • Verify that the problematic devices support IEEE802.3af or IEEE802.3at.  Passive PoE devices and a device that requires more than 30W will not work and some devices are proprietary.  Check the device maker's documentation for compatablilty.
  • Determine if the devices that are disconnecting due to power loss or network issues like duplicate IP, DHCP pool exhaustion, etc.
  • Connect the non-working devices into a known working port on the switch to determine if there is an issue with the port/port configuration.
  • If possible plug the non-working device directly into the switch with a short working patch cable to determine if it's a wiring issue.
