Airplay + Screen Mirror confusion
Hi All,
I'm currently having an issue related to iPhone AirPlay to a Hisense TV.
Screen Mirror works a treat but once I switch to Airplay, video will play for no more than 15 seconds.
Following are my current config:
- mDNS setup to allow for Main network to IoT network
- ACL to allow AirPlay (UDP) between Main and Iot network
- ACL setup on Gateway and ACL
Not sure what else I'm missing and would really appreciate some insight regarding my config here.
Thanks in advance!

Hi @Sriracha02
Thanks for posting here: Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Check Network Configuration
- Verify mDNS Setup: Ensure that mDNS is correctly configured to allow communication between your main network and IoT network. This is crucial for device discovery in AirPlay.
- Review ACL Settings: Double-check the Access Control List (ACL) settings on your gateway to ensure that all necessary ports for AirPlay are open and correctly configured. The main ports to consider are:
- UDP 5353 for mDNS ( Bonjour service discovery)
- TCP/UDP 3689 for AirPlay
- UDP 6000-6007 for video streaming
- Check for Conflicting Rules: Sometimes, ACL rules can conflict or be misordered, which might block necessary traffic. Ensure that the rules allowing AirPlay traffic are not being overridden by other security settings.
2. Update Firmware
- Update TV Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your Hisense TV that might improve AirPlay compatibility.
- Update iPhone: Ensure your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS, as updates can sometimes fix bugs related to AirPlay.
3. Reset Network Settings on iPhone
- Sometimes, network settings on the iPhone can cause issues with AirPlay. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset all network settings, including Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
4. Check Wi-Fi Signal and Bandwidth
- Signal Strength: Ensure that both your iPhone and Hisense TV have a strong Wi-Fi signal. Weak signals can cause disconnections.
- Bandwidth: High-definition video streaming requires a stable and fast internet connection. If your network is congested or slow, it might cause the AirPlay stream to drop.
5. Disable QoS or Bandwidth Limitations
- If your router has Quality of Service (QoS) settings or bandwidth limitations, try disabling them temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.
6. Use a Different Wi-Fi Network
- Try connecting both your iPhone and TV to a different Wi-Fi network to rule out issues specific to your current network.
7. Check for Interference
- Other electronic devices or Wi-Fi networks can cause interference. Try changing the Wi-Fi channel on your router to see if that improves the AirPlay connection.
8. Contact Hisense Support
- If none of the above steps work, it might be a specific issue with the Hisense TV’s implementation of AirPlay. Contact Hisense support for further assistance.
9. Consider Third-Party Solutions
- If AirPlay continues to be problematic, consider using a third-party app that supports screen mirroring, which might offer better compatibility with your TV.

Hi @Sriracha02,
Airplay uses several ports (TCP too) plus the ephemeral range. Based on your problem, you might be missing them; UDP/TCP ports 49152-65535 are used for the media transfer and screen mirroring.
Also just google "airplay ports firewall" to check if there's any other ports you need.
