Hi

I plan on starting a small home network after a fibre installation. Modem is in the hallway and I wish to run CAT 6 into loft where I will fit the Network Switch (prob. 8 Port).  I don't have mains power in the loft and I hoped to power the switch with a PoE Injector downstairs.

My question/s which switch would be suitable ? No plans to run anything from the switch that actually requires power BUT maybe at sometime a security camera might be fitted.

Thank you

By the way, this switch also supports PoE power; if it’s listed on your region’s official site, you might want to consider it.

Based on your description, you need a switch that can power itself via PoE. TP-Link does not offer any switch that can be powered as a PoE-powered device (PD); all TP-Link PoE switches act only as power-sourcing equipment (PSE) and require an external power adapter.

All the devices you mentioned require external power to operate; they cannot be powered via PoE themselves. Their PoE ports can only supply power to other PoE-compatible devices.

Okay, thanks for the info and help. Disaster avoided, gone with UbiQuiti   albeit only 5 port but it will do for now. Hopefully TP-Link will maybe consider this in future.

Cheers
