SD-WAN Group limitation (16 spokes) on OC300 and ER7206 - scaling options?
Hi,
I am currently managing an infrastructure based on the OC300 controller and ER7206 as the main Hub. I am attempting to scale my network using the SD-WAN feature, but I've hit a hard limit in the controller UI that restricts me to a maximum of 16 spoke devices. I need to understand the path for scaling this architecture. My ER7206 is specified for up to 100 IPsec tunnels, yet the SD-WAN orchestration layer seems throttled by the OC300.
I have the following questions for the technical team:
-
Hardware Upgrade: If I upgrade the controller to the OC400, will the SD-WAN group limit be increased? If so, what is the new maximum for a Hub-and-Spoke topology?
-
Software Controller: Will migrating to the Omada Software Controller (running on x86 hardware) remove this "16 spokes" restriction for the ER7206, or is this a firmware-level limitation of the gateway itself when in SD-WAN mode?
-
Gateway Limitation: Is the 16-spoke limit tied to the ER7206's resources when handled by the SD-WAN Orchestrator? Would replacing the Gateway with an ER8411 increase the allowed number of spokes within a single SD-WAN group while still using the OC300?
Looking forward to your technical insights.
Current Setup:
-
Controller: OC300
-
Hub: ER7206
-
Total Spokes target: 20+
