Hello,

a friend sells an EAP660HD v1 (His desired price Euro 130,-) and an EAP650 v1 (His desired price Euro 55,-), and am thinking about buying one and replacing my EAP245 as I have more and more Wifi6 devices.
There are currently around 20-25 devices in my WiFi (smartphone, FireTV, smart devices,...)
Did some research, the EAP650 is probably the new model...
I only have a 1Gbit network and couldn't use the 2.5Gbit of the EAP660HD.

Actually I only have one question:

In practice, does the EAP660HD really have a much greater range/coverage than the EAP650, so that the much higher price is justified?
The EAP660HD's specifications are better, The range is supposedly twice as great, but how does this manifest itself in practice for me?
Maybe someone has experience?
Or maybe you shouldn't buy both because it's still version 1?

Thanks smiley

You might take a look at this thread that was posted some time ago.

I have EAP660hd and EAP653. both are connected with 1gb lan, EAP653 has 160Mhz bandwidth which can increase the speed at short distances. I do not recommend 160Mhz unless you live far up the mountain alone.
when I compare both with 80Mhz bandwidth EAP660HD is faster has longer range.
EAP660HD is bigger and bulkier, EAP653 is smaller and prettier.
but anyway I would have chosen EAP660HD

The linked article, however, is more about the transmission speed.

I consider that secondary.

My primary concern would be an access point with the widest possible coverage.

@MR.S
From what I've read, the 660HD probably has the best coverage/range.
I don't understand why.
The EAP660HD has 4x4 antennas, the EAP650 has 2x2.
Ideally, this would result in a faster transmission speed for the 660HD, since more antennas would allow more data to be transmitted simultaneously.
But why does this improve the range/coverage?

Thanks smiley

I don't know, but I suspect that 4 antennas spread the signal better than with two antennas. There is also more powerful hardware that also helps, EAP660HD should in theory handle over 1000 users.

Hi @lukass2000,

As others noted, the 660HD would be better than the 650, but IMO it's not worth paying more than double to get it especially if you won't have the 2.5GB uplink. Most devices don't really need anything approaching the max theoretical bandwidth, but they do benefit from strong signals so more cheaper APs may work better. Everyone's circumstances are different though so do what works for your network and budget.
