..so I was testing this added layer of authentication security found in the management tab of the web interface.

The User Guide explains, p85 "Enable this function to allow PCs with specific MAC addresses to access the web management page. And then enter each MAC address in the MAC field. The format for the MAC addresses is XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX. Only the PCs with the MAC addresses listed can use the password to access the device's web management page and the others will be blocked. By default, the function is not enabled. All the PCs in the local area network are allowed to access the device's web management page.
Click Add PC’s MAC, your PC’s MAC address will be added in the list above. Click Apply to save your settings."

I therefore input 4 different MAC addresses of my wireless and ethernet interfaces of my laptop locally - workstation remotely and applied the settings...and now find myself unable to login to the web interface both locally and remotely..something I'm missing?

:confused::mad:

gave it another shot...whenever the laptop locally is behind a router that's setup after the CPE it's a no go...I suppose it's a double NAT thing that's causing this as the second router has it's own range of IPs (192.168.2.xx), as opposed to 192.168.1.xx of the primary network...If anyone has something to chime in I'm all ears :)

Can't work through a router with different subnetworks.

Informative as always...However looking back at the user's guide why is there explicit reference to local access, i.e. "a ll the PCs in the local area network are allowed to access the device's web management page", if this doesn't relate to remote access, too..being that remote clients are always under different subnetworks to say the least...?

Not necessarily. If you are bridging the subnets, the MAC sublayer (layer 2) is shared between the bridged subnets. But if you are routing two subnets, the MAC sublayers of those subnets are isolated from each other. An exception are routed wireless subnets with WDS enabled, if 4-address mode is used for WDS. In this mode, there will be 4 MAC addresses in each Ethernet frame.
