Model : AC500

Firmware Version : latest as of nov'17

Hi there,

we have the following setup:
- AC500 as hw controller
- 4x CAP1750 access points
- ER6020 as router

As a client I can easily connect, with a RSSI of around -50 to -60 and noise of -95.
But on a totally random basis the connection drops after a couple of minutes (5-10), with the client moving around.

I tried a lot of different settings, load balancing enabled or disabled, wifi roaming on/off etc etc., but the problem is still there.

And: The green LED of the CAPs blinks from time to time, not on a regular frequency - I have no clue what this means.

Do you have any idea, how to approach this problem?

Best regards,

Martin

Hi Martin

If the LED blinked from time to time but keep green, it meant that the CAP has disconnected from AC.
But if LED blinked from green, then red, then yellow, it meant that the CAP was rebooting.
May I know what kind of situation you are facing?
If the problem is due to the CAP rebooting automatically, you can refer to this:
http://forum.tp-link.com/showthread.php?100677-CAP1750_V1_170901_Beta-Fix-the-problem-that-CAP1750-will-automatically-reboot-in-some-high-client-density-environment&highlight=CAP1750

Y
ou can upgrade your CAP with this beta firmware to see if the problem can be solved.

Does the issue get fixed?
How many clients will connect to CAP 1750 at a time at most?

See this post whose issue is fixed by upgrading the above Beta firmware given by Edison: http://forum.tp-link.com/showthread.php?100279-AC50-timeout

Hi,

I've installed the Beta-Firmware and it looks pretty promising, still I want to monitor it for some more days before I order the champagne.

Cheers, Martin

While the beta firmware seemingly has addressed the problem of the CAP1750s randomly powering off, it isn’t addressing the real problem. I have 2 of these APs servicing one SSID and whenever one of the APs has more than 8+ clients connected to it, a device will randomly disconnect for a few seconds before reconnecting. The workaround right now is to turn down the load balancing thresholds but that’s not optimal as it sometimes sends a client to the AP that is further away and actually has worse signal. I’m starting to this think might have been a bad investment…

Hi twonuts

It seems that you have enabled a function called Max Associated Clients.

If so, the number of clients connecting to an AP will be limited as the value you set.
When the clients number over this value, the AP would disconnect with the clients which have the lowest signal strength.
So please check if you had enabled this function.

If you had disabled this function, but the problem still exist, please feel free to let me know.

Edison, thanks for the reply. The max number of users per radio, per AP has been left at the default of 100.

Hi twonuts

Would you mind sending a screenshot of configuration about Load balancing?

When you disabled the load balancing function, did the problem persist?
