Hello. I've gone through a number of posts here trying to figure out my issue on my own, but nothing has seemed to fit exactly.

I have an established corporate network with multiple VLANs in place (10,20,40,60,80,90,100). All Cisco equipment and I can modify ports as needed. I have DHCP ranges in VLANs 10,20,60,80 and 90.

As far as I can tell, port 1 will be the uplink port. A trunk port as I would call it. I'd like to set port 2 with VLAN10, ports 3 & 4 with VLAN80 and port 5 with VLAN90. Traffic passing through ports 2-5 should be tagged with the assigned VLAN (port 2 with VLAN10, 3 & 4 with VLAN80 and 5 with VLAN90).

I tried to set this up but didn't get the expected result. Port 1 was plugged into the network. The network switchport is trunked with native VLAN of 10. When I plugged my laptop into port 2, I received a VLAN10 address. When I plugged into ports 3-5 I still received an IP address from VLAN 10. I anticipated the traffic would be tagged VLAN 80 or 90 and issued IPs from those ranges. What am I missing?

Disclosure, I am used to Cisco nomenclature so I'm not completely understanding the TP terminology.

Remove ports 1-5 from VLAN1 and add port 1 as a member and tagged port of all remaining VLANs if it should be a trunk port. What's more, ports 2-5 should be untagged members of the VLANs if you want those to be access ports. Remember to set PVIDs accordingly.

With the setting shown, all devices communicate over VLAN1 (untagged) if their PVID is 1 (the default), which is not what you want.

When I tried that config, I lost communication with the switch after removing VLAN1 from all ports.

I have tried to keep it simple and only test with one vlan, vlan10.

Here is what I have done.



I still cannot get vlan 10 to pass through the switch. I made vlan10 tagged and untagged on port 1. I have also removed vlan1 from port 1. Vlan 10 is tagged on ports 4&5 and untagged on ports 2&3. moving between ports 3 and 4 make no difference.

I want to setup ports 2-5 so they are access ports for vlans I assign. Port 1 would be an uplink. If I plug into port 2 (VLAN10) I would get an IP from VLAN 10. If I plug into port 3/4 (VLAN80) I would get an IP from VLAN 80.

I use TL-SG108E in this example, but steps are identical for TL-SG105E.

Step 1: Create VLAN 10, assign port 2 as an untagged member. Create VLAN 80, assign ports 3-4 as untagged members, too:





Step 2: Go to PVID settings, assign port 2 the PVID 10 and ports 3-4 the PVID 80. You need to do this in order to be able to remove them from the default VLAN in the next step:






Step 3: Now assign port 1 as a tagged member of VLAN 10 and 80 and remove ports 2-4 as members of VLAN 1 (check "Not member"). Leave ports 1 and 5 untagged in VLAN 1 so you don't get disconnected on port 1 (or use another port):





Port 2 is now a member of VLAN 10, untagged Ethernet frames will be assigned to VLAN 10 due to the PVID setting and are being forwarded to port 1 only.
Ports 3-4 are members of VLAN 80, untagged frames will be assigned VLAN 80 and are being forwarded to port 1, too.
Port 1 is a trunk port, tagged frames will be forwarded to the members of the appropriate VLAN (VID10-> port 2, VID80-> ports 3-4, untagged frames-> port 5).
Port 5 is still on VLAN1, frames will be forwarded to port 1 only.

BTW: If you want your router connected to the trunk port 1 also process tagged frames for VLAN 1, assign port 1 as a tagged member of VLAN 1, too. But use another port different from port 1 to connect to the switch when configuring this, else you will get disconnected as soon as you apply this setting.

Remember to save the config.

Thank you so much. That was it. I was missing the PVID setting. I'm all setup now.
