I'm tring to stack 2 of these switches - both are H/W 1.0 and have F/W 1.0.2 Build 20160108 Release 59984(s)

I've powered up the units, hit reset on both and then powered them off connected them with a 0.5m passive SFP+ cable and powerd them back on.

Plugged a laptop into a 1GBe port, set it to 192.168.0.5/24, browsed to 192.168.0.1

Enabled the two Stack Port Group 0 SFP+ ports

after a short wait, logged back in and verified that 1/0/25 and 1/0/16 say Status Down, Neighbor none

Saved the config

Plugged a laptop into the second switch's 1GBe port browsed to 192.168.0.1

and connected them with an SFP+ 0.5m cable port 26 on one and 25 the other.

Enabled the two Stack Port Group 0 SFP+ ports

after a short wait, logged back in and verified that 1/0/25 and 1/0/16 say Status Down, Neighbor none

Saved the config

The powered them both off

unplugged the laptop from the switch

Power up one unit (with SFP+ in 1/0/25)

waited a minute until all the ports briedfly flash together

Power up the other unit (with SFP+ in 1/0/26)

The first one finishes booting with SYS flashing and the Master light on displaying "1"

then the second switch finishes booting also with SYS flashing and the Master light on displaying "1"

I can plug th elaptop into either switch, and browse around - the first switch reports AuthFail on 1/0/25, the other switch reports down for it's 1/0/26

I can configure either switch to work on our network, use NTP with a static link - just not get the stack working.

I tried anothe rsfp+ cable that I know works - same result.

I tried the other Port Group 1 .. same result

Is there a step missing ?

Thanks in advance

The system info shows the ports as green but Stack Info reports AuthFail

Thanks for the reply Panda,

The docs say what I did should work as Master Election is determined by: who was last Master; Highest priority; longest running time or lowest MAC address.

However I did manually set Unit 1 to priority 1 and manualy set the other switch to being Unit 2 and priority 15 rebooted 1 then 2 but still get the AuthFail on unit 2's StackInfo and just Down on Unit 1.

But as I did that, I noticed that Unit 1 has firmware 1.0.2 and  Unit 2 has 1.0.3 - so first I'll update Unit1

*Update* it works - so I presume the Firmware has to match across the stack which makes sense but isn't spelled out in the documentation that I can see.

Strange that the units were shipped out with mismatching firmware when bought together in one order.

Cheers

Joss

Hi Dude

I think you forget to give them different priority for each devices.

https://static.tp-link.com/T1700G-28TQ(UN)_V2_UG_1478835969746l.pdf on page 79. You can refer to this document.

Hi Joss

Oh, that could be the reason. Thank you! Anyway, glad to hear you solved it.
