Hi, I am setting up a home office. My current consumer WiFi router is not giving me enough coverage. I want to try setting up a network with Omada.

The fibre termination point is in the living room which also doubles as a home office. I would like a separate wifi access point and lan connectivity in the bedroom. There is no ethernet in the home but a functioning MoCA bridge between the fibre termination point (living room) and the bedroom. My ISP provided a fibre modem (Nokia). That is the extent of what I have on hand right now.

I in intend on buying:

  • 2 x TL-SG108E
  • 2 x EAP225
  • 1 x OC200

Proposed setup below

Nokia Modem -> TL-SG108E (first device in liiving room)

TL-SG108E (first device in liiving room) -> OC200

TL-SG108E (first device in liiving room) -> MoCA bridge

TL-SG108E (first device in liiving room) -> EAP225 (first device)

MoCA bridge - TL-SG108E (second device in bedroom)

TL-SG108E (second device in bedroom) -> EAP225 (second device)

My questions are:

  1. Will this work?
  2. Do I need a "router" or "gateway" etc to be connected to the modem first or is the managed switch ok?
  3. Does the above do proper wifi roaming / handoff like 802.11 r / k / v ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would consider getting an additional PoE switch for the living room. This will allow you to connect and power the OC200 and the EAP225 without the need for additional injectors.

I would also replace the proposed TL-SG108E with a PoE equivalent for the same reason of powering the EAP225 directly.

EDIT: Yes the omada kit does 'proper' wifi roaming 802.11 k/v I believe

Actually I just realised that I probably do need a router.

So I should puchase

  • 1 x TL-SG105 or 8
  • 1 x TL-R470T+
  • 2 x EAP225
  • 1 x OC200

Then the setup will be

Nokia Modem -> TL-R470T+ (living room)

TL-R470T+  (living room) -> OC200

TL-R470T+  (living room) -> EAP225 (first device)

TL-R470T+ (living room) -> MoCA bridge

MoCA bridge - TL-SG108E (in bedroom)

TL-SG108E (in bedroom) -> EAP225 (second device)

Is that correct?

Thanks for this. I finally got it set up so that I have a POE switch i n the bedroom but for the living room, I am using a POE injector as the router already has 8 ports and its more than enough for me.
