Checking Omada Cloud, I notice that in the last 2 days the APs have mysteriously changed their IP. DHCP is enabled and they have been fairly stable. They are getting their IP from the CPE. Then all of a sudden they are getting their IP from the router which is a different subnet. Why would  this be happening? Yes, they still work, but it would be nice to know what caused this to happen.

I guess the EAPs did renew their DHCP leases and now got IPs assigned from the router's DHCP server.

If this happens, it means that you run two DHCP servers in the same broadcast domain.

 

I recommend to always use static IPs for stationary devices. Whether you use static MAC/IP mappings in the DHCP server or a fixed static IP set in the device to do so depends on personal preferences.

Great idea. I'll do that. On so many networks i just rely on DHCP and don't give it another thought as one rarely sees the IP. But since I actively monitor the network, it became obvious. Thanks
